Question about LG CU500 Cellular Phone

TU550 USB issues

Is anyone having USB connections problems with using the TU550 as a modem for internet access? A few weeks ago, I installed the software, drivers, etc, onto my laptop, but after a short while, the laptop rebooted itself, and went into chkdsk, and then safe mode and then it rebooted, and 1/2 started, and on and on and on... I ended up having to re-install windows and all my other downloads.

I have tried this on 2 different laptops (running XP home), and have tried different TU550's ( we have 10 of them at my work), and the same issue occurs.

I purchased a new TU550 last Friday, and other than a few cosmetic changes, it seems to be pretty much the same as the others we have. I had thought that the software supplied with this newermodel may have fixed this issue, but alas, that was not to be the case. I installed it all, and then.... bang... off went my laptop again.

Prior to working out that this was the reason for the laptops misbehaving, I had sent one of them to be looked at back at the suppliers, and they had no problems at all. It was only after buying the new TU last week, that I managed to whittle the problems down to the phone or its connections.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

    HI Guest.

Whoever you are, thanks for the help on this. It works!

Since I posted my question, I have changed over to a MacBook Pro... which is also running windows. When running in windows mode, I can connect the LG without any problems at all.

Now all I have to do is work out how to get it to connect in Mac mode!

Never the less, I can use use my phone the way I need to.

Once again... thanks heaps! (And thanks fixya for providing these forums)

    Happy Days... LuveNewToys

First, un-install all software for this phone then:
- Install the USB driver
- Connect the phone and USB cable into your USB port, wait for the computer to detect the phone, if it goes into USB mass storage mode, exit so your computer can detect the phone's modem.
- Now install the LG Internet Kit while the phone is connected to the USB port and it should already be exit out of the USB storage mode.
- Run the LG Internet Kit program, add new modem, select LG Modem, add new connection, select your country and carrier, click connect.

Good luck! This method worked for me, otherwise just manually create a dial-up connection in Network Connection folder and enter the dial-up code for your carrier, no need for any user name or password.

Wireless internet limited connectivity

The first thing to do is reset the router. There is a button on the router that you press with a paper clip. You will then have to access the router with your browser and a cat5 cable connection to change all the settings that you might need to change for security. DHCP should be enabled and there should not be an issue with the number of concurrent connections.

When I install connectify I lose all internet connectivity, when I uninstall it, I get normal internet connectivity back

This problem is likely being caused by something that Connectify installls called the Connectify Lightweight Filter, which you can find if you right-click on your USB modem connection and select 'properties'. There is a list which says 'Connect using the following items:" and it is in there. Un-check it, and that should work fine, at least it did for me. The bigger question, which I am looking for an answer to, is how to get Connectify to work with my 3G USB dongle, without creating this problem.

Cafe world won't run if accessed thru network with internet access but opens using usb wifi/modem. my current work-around is to disable the network connection, plug-in the usb modem and open cafe world...

With the computer connected to your network (I assume it's ethernet?) and browser access to internet working, try uninstalling and re-installing cafe world.

LG tu550 and Windows XP professional

If you want to use a cable connection, go into the phone menu and select the following:
Menu > Settings > Connectivity > USB Connection Mode > Mass Storage

After this, plug the phone in via the USB cable.
The computer will prompt to install the modem driver which you can cancel.
Then the computer should detect the memory card as a USB drive and you can copy and paste what you need.

Hope this helps

Wireless connection

that unit has a driver problem, for the usb or ethernet, you might be able to re-install the specific drivers on their web site, and retry it there, unless the wireless in pci based and the you have a driver problem there, if you can use the ethernet connection then it's usb or pcmci, try that, if that doesn't work you need a tech to look at it.

hope this helps you out, let me know

Yes you can use USb modem, you need to uninstall modem software, disconnect modem and reinstall software configuring it as usb. Start installation with modem disconnected and follow User Guide SBG900

Note: usb modem is much slower than ethernet modem (even if you use same machine) . Instead of using modem as usb I suggest using an external Usb Network adapter.
