Question about Video Cameras

Charging Battery I have just bought a JVC MG255 video camera as well as a BP-823CL 5 hr battery. I am having trouble charging and using the battery, does it have to be charged on it own (orange light appears then turns off after 10- 20 secs) or connected to the camera and camera dock, and what is that extra little cord used for. I am really at a lose or its probably something so simple, please help as I am at a complete lose.

Thanks I try but the battery is brand new straight from its packet, I have tried attaching the battery to the camera and plugging the small cord that come with the battery into the port of the battery, then docking the camera in the Everio dock and plugging the AC adapter into the dock. There is now a green light on the battery but the green light on the camera to indicate that it is charging is not lighting.

For mine, you dont use the dock to charge the Sakar battery. You just unplug the power to the dock, and put THAT power cord into the Sakar battery (not the cord the battery comes with). So, the battery charges straight from the outlet without going through the dock.

Maybe your battery is dead, put your battery in your freezer for one night and charge it again.

I cannot seem to charge my JVC Everio camcorder. When I use the USB and hook it to my computer, the light flashes as if its charging, but the camera won't turn on. Any ideas?

Measure the voltage on the battery. If you don't have a volt-meter have a guy in Radio Shack do it. Probably have a dead cell that is drawing down the charging voltage. Try taking the battery out and use the camcorder with the AC connected.

H0w do i charge the battery

Depending on the camera model, you may have a charging jack on the back of the camera that the charging cable plugs into, or a standalone battery charger for the battery (battery is off the camera and attached to a seperate charger).

Hi luismasramir ,

Seems to be the case where the battery is not fully recharged , Please follow the below steps :-

  1. Please make sure that you charge your battery fully , till the time you see an indicator for the battery being fully charged , or may be you see an icon in the display screen with the charge status.
  2. As far the 6.30 hr duration that you have mentioned, this duration reflects the time that you have left for total recording space on your disk or memory card depending on your current source for recording.
  3. The above duration is not to be confused with the battery usage time.
Hope his helps ...:)

Battery symbol blinking when put on charging.

It does sound like the battery needs to be replaced, but it also could be an internal charging problem with the camcorder. I would try a new battery first, since it's the easiest and cheapest option

    Power problem

Your battery is probabily uncharged or disconnected. Try taking the battery out and putting it back in. Then charge it (by plugging in the AC adapter) until the green activity light stops flashing. If this does not work, your battery is probabily dead. Did you short it out? Or perhaps it is old. Li-Ion batteries (the kind used in these machines) lose their ability to hold their charge in a few years - even if they're not in use! So, if your battery is 3 or more years old, try considering a new battery.
