I have just bought a JVC MG255 video camera as well as a BP-823CL 5 hr battery. I am having trouble charging and using the battery, does it have to be charged on it own (orange light appears then turns off after 10- 20 secs) or connected to the camera and camera dock, and what is that extra little cord used for. I am really at a lose or its probably something so simple, please help as I am at a complete lose.

Thanks I try but the battery is brand new straight from its packet, I have tried attaching the battery to the camera and plugging the small cord that come with the battery into the port of the battery, then docking the camera in the Everio dock and plugging the AC adapter into the dock. There is now a green light on the battery but the green light on the camera to indicate that it is charging is not lighting.
maybe your battery is dead, put your battery in your freezer for one night and charge it again.

For mine, you dont use the dock to charge the Sakar battery. You just unplug the power to the dock, and put THAT power cord into the Sakar battery (not the cord the battery comes with). So, the battery charges straight from the outlet without going through the dock.
