Re: Playback of DVDs

You probably require an AC3 filter (surround sound driver), check HERE for a free one.

Can NO LONGER BURN Video Files To My DVD's

Sounds like a DVD drive issue to me since the same thing happens in more than one program. Luckily desktop DVD-burners are quite inexpensive, since you should replace the drive completely with a brand new one. It's the fact that it THINKS it burned correctly that is the nail in the coffin.

Are you connecting the unit to your computer or a TV?
If it's the former, what OS does your computer have? Can you access the DVD to read the contents of any optical disc or play back audio CDs? If you can't get any content, then try a different Y USB cable (shorter cables are best). If you still don't get a response, try a different optical drive. The LG GP40NB40 may be faulty. If it is under warranty (1 year), contact LG or return it to the store where you purchased it (usually a 30 day return period).
If you have Windows 8, it doesn't come with the Codecs to play DVDs. (Some new Windows 8 machines will include a program like Cyberlink's PowerDVD. However, not all will.) In that case you need to install an appropriate program to play DVDs. The Win8 Media Player requires an upgrade to Win8 Pro and then the purchase of the Media Center. VLC will play most DVDs . Some DRM issues may interfere. There are other DVD playback programs you can try. (As far as I can tell, the software that LG included with this model is not Win8 compatible for playback of movies.) If you had an older version of Windows and upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, you just need to purchase Media Center. (At least with some machines, the DVD playback software before the upgrade wasn't Win8 compatible and has to be upgraded.)
If you have a different OS, please indicate which one. (XP, Vista and Windows 7 all came with media player codecs for DVDs. Before that, the feature wasn't included.)
If you are connecting to a TV, it isn't designed to play commercial movies. It acts like a flash drive to play videos, display photos, etc. (Thus the limitations are due to the TVs file Codecs. Check the TV documentation.)

I hope this helps.

I think in detail you problem is that you play DVD movies, write DVDs, write CD etc. overall it was working fine. All on a sudden you could not plat DVD movies anymore. At the beginning you thought your DvD burner needs to be changed but you tried audio CD and mp3 just to check and they worked fine, then you tried data DVD, that worked perfectly okay as well. than you think there was certain that it's a software problem. So you tried all sort of things that you possibly could. you removed the hardware and added it back on. It didn't work. you uninstalled DVD codec and reinstall it. Still didn't work. you installed one software called regcure, still didn't work. you tried windows troubleshooter, didn't get much help.

if you done all these thing......than i think..

The DVD drive still could be bad. I would try to borrow an external DVD drive before you try anything else. If the system picks up the drive and plays though your software, then most likely the drive is bad. I had this happen with a desktop in reverse, (played DVD, not CD). I think there are 2 different lasers in a combo drive. It's definitely worth a shot. Is there anything in media player waiting to be written? Unless you have a third party codec properly installed in Windows Media Player, it will pretty much act the way you describe.

hopes that helpful to you

DVD Drive not being recognized as a DVD drive

That is not unusual.
Several of my CD/DVD drives are listed as CD drives.
They still play and write DVDs.
The problem is cosmetic and not worth spending time on.

Now if you are trying to play a DVD movie you are going to need a CODEC (Coder/Decoder).
Windows XP does not include a CODEC to play DVD movies.
I use Intervideo WinDVD.

I hope this helps.

LG Super Multi will not detect DVDs in the drive

Try the unit on another pc if it can read a dvd disc. If it can read a dvd disc then maybe you can try to uninstall the program for the dvd rewriter and then reinstall it again.

Audio problem by DVD Play

You need to check to see if the dvd drive is set to digital playback because
it is probably trying to find your on board AC97 - 5.1 digital output. With
a music CD it doesn't have to be connected digitially because it uses analog
for stereo playback but most DVD's - if a movie - are set to playback in
digital. Open 'My Computer', right click on your DVD drive, select
properties, select hardware, highlight your DVD drive, click on properties,
then properties again, check- Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM

Playing PC DVD roms problem

Dvd drives can read from both DVD and CD however due to technological limitations most DVD-ROM or RAM read up to slightly higher speeds for CDs than DVDs.

When burning DVDs professional companies that make prerecorded disks burn their disk at low speeds in an effort to achieve both compatibility and low errors, that is the reason their DVDs play on most DVD-ROMs. However DVDs me and you burn at home and work at high speeds are prone to errors and incompatibility with low reading speed drives.

As a result if your DVD-ROM has a low maximum reading speed then it can only read those prerecorded DVDs and only DVDs recorded at low speeds provided thre are not scratched.

I believe you managed to read those DVD movies if they were pre recorded.

LG Super Multi will not detect DVDs in the drive

Sounds like you may have a firmware issue. I had something similar on a Sony external dvd writer. If you go here: click on Download Software in the bottom left, then DVD-ROM(Writer) near the middle, scroll down a bit (maybe also be on the following pages) It's listed as: New firmware (ver. SE02) for only GSA-E40L(External 18X Super multi DVD Writer) Run the firmware updater and you should be good to go
