Go into settings. Then select SD Card & Phone Storage. In this menu you need to select Mass storage only. After doing this the usb connection notification will appear when you connect your phone to your PC.
This issue could be caused by a few things. The first thing I would do is restart the device, then try to connect again. I would then try using a different USB port on the computer to make sure that it was not the specific one I was using before. If the problem still persists the make sure you have installed drivers for this device on your computer and try using a different cable to connect it.
Select the data storage mode from the connections option of your settings tab in your phone. It should connect to the computer by now. Else i would suggest using Nokia PC suite and using it to sync files
Try to convert the pics to a different format, ie, from .jpg to .gif and the like. Use a good graphic handling SW. Use GIMP as it is a powerful one. It is available free for Windows and Linux.
And for future, change the settings in your phone to the one that the computer can read.
1. Make sure the microSD card is inserted in the phone.
2. Plug the phone into the USB slot on your computer using the G1 USB cable.
3. Watch the notification bar at the top of the G1 main screen. After
the computer connects on the USB port, you will see a small USB icon
appear on the notification bar.
4. Drag the notification bar down and select the USB connection
notification. A popup will appear asking you if you want to mount the
microSD card on the computer. Select "mount." After a second, the PC
should detect the card.
5. You can now copy files to and from the card like any other USB storage device.
When you're finished, open the Music app, and select the Songs icon and
you should see all your music files listed. The phone will read the
files and sort them by album name and artist name as well.
