Question about Panasonic DMR-ES35VS

On my DMR-ES35 Panasonic after perfect operation for 18 months, I'm getting a NO READ message, on disks already recorded on this unit, and several new disks of different makes. The main sympton now is

My unit is DMR-ES35S. After perfect operation over 18 months and 100s of recordings and playbacks, all of a sudden I'm getting a NO READ message after loading. Doesn't seem to be the disk, even though the message appears as bad disk or disk is unrecordable etc since I've tried several makes of both new and used disks, all of which have previously worked fine. The main symptom is four loud "clunks" after loading, which turns out to be the laser trolley banging up against the drive spindle four times then quits, followed by the NO READ message. Thanks

I am having the exact problem with my unit - everything you mentioned. Also 18 months of perfect operation. Is the problem the laser? If so, I guess that means taking it in for service. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem exactly. I get the NO READ message and my discs are not scratched or dirty. It bangs around a few times then tells me NO READ. The manual doesn't tell me any other solutions other than to basically try a different disc. Um I tried several. Any suggestions.

I am getting NO READ on my DVD-RAM disks that I recorded on this system. My DMR-ES35V is over a year old, maybe 2. I'm wondering if it's the laser, too.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I've followed the troubleshooting guide...turning off, unplugging for a minute, and restarting. It hasn't worked. Any thoughts?

Our Player was working for a long while, but now the machine is saying that the disc can not be read. It wouldn't play any discs or can not record on any discs. There is loud noises inside of the machine. Please help us.

I experienced the same issue, I have had it about 18 months and it did the same thing. Guess I need a new one.

SAME PROBLEM - What a shame - it looks like Panasonic used some planned timing when it purchased the crappy parts so it would break and force us to all buy a new one every couple of years. I took mine in for an estimate, but after reading this, i don't have much hope. The non-finalized disks ARE playable on an earlier Panasonic machine that i have (PVD 4742), so I hope that they will also work on a more recent model when we all have to face buying a new recorder. Errrrrrrrrr

Same problem. "NoREAD" after about 15 months of moderate usage. Cleaned laser eye thoroughly. Solution is a class action lawsuit against Panasonic.

Had exactly the same problem. Took it in for service estimate: $354 for new laser unit.... laughable.... so I'll have to buy a new unit.
Only problem is how to deal with unfinalized discs? Can I finalize them in new recorder? Or is it a tragedy with all my nearly full discs unplayable?

Since it went into "disk recovery mode" it now will not play dvds

Got the same problem. Happened 2 months after guarantee expired. **** machine. The only good thing is the harddrive and that is made by HITACHI not Panasonic! I go Sony next time. Panasonic quoted £200 plus to fix the problem. I only paid £220 when I bought it new.

DMR EH55+ a misdiagnosed problem

The DVD Drive is bad. Buy a used DMR-ES15, DMR-ES25, DMR-ES45, or DMR-ES46 with a good DVD drive and swap out your bad drive. And be sure not to record in the high speed mode in the future. Set your recorder to High Speed Mode Off. Then see about getting your money back from the shop that didn't know what they were doing.
