Question about Panasonic DMR-ES35VS
My unit is DMR-ES35S. After perfect operation over 18 months and 100s of recordings and playbacks, all of a sudden I'm getting a NO READ message after loading. Doesn't seem to be the disk, even though the message appears as bad disk or disk is unrecordable etc since I've tried several makes of both new and used disks, all of which have previously worked fine. The main symptom is four loud "clunks" after loading, which turns out to be the laser trolley banging up against the drive spindle four times then quits, followed by the NO READ message. Thanks
Same problem. "NoREAD" after about 15 months of moderate usage. Cleaned laser eye thoroughly. Solution is a class action lawsuit against Panasonic.

Had exactly the same problem. Took it in for service estimate: $354 for new laser unit.... laughable.... so I'll have to buy a new unit.
Only problem is how to deal with unfinalized discs? Can I finalize them in new recorder? Or is it a tragedy with all my nearly full discs unplayable?
