Unit believes there is a tape in carrier and says eject on the screen and then turns tv off 10 seconds after you turn the unit on. I want to disable the tape part if possible and keep the tv function. I have removed the vcr mechanism and all associated wires running to the mechanism but unit does the same thing with no mechanism present. Is it possible to just have the tv function?
Likely the tape sensor switch is faulty. Normally it is located on beneath the mechanism towards the front where the tape goes in. It is a micro-switch that is actually soldered to the main PCB. You have to remove the main board and desolder the switch. You might want to try replacing the switch since with over usage (tape in/out countless times) it may have worn out.
Note that VCR servos are such that if an event in the mechanism does not occur within a given frame of time the unit will shut down.
