Question about Insignia NS-PDVD8 Portable DVD Player

Video and autio not in sync

I have recently acquired a insignia model NS-PDVD8. I took it back to the store when I discovered that on certain DVDs the picture and audio were not in sync (the audio lagged behind the video) although these same DVDs played fine on other machines. It turns out the machine I exchanged it for also does the same thing.

I am otherwise satisfied with this new unit that replaced an earlier one which died.

They either came w/books or were brought (Deutsche Grammaphon). As I think I mentioned, they all play properly on other hardware.

  • dkeithtag Jan 22, 2008

I did --- no change. Could it be the region code? Not clear about how to change it on this model...

  • dkeithtag Jan 23, 2008

I believe the DVDs are NTSC--I'll confirm and advise you if this is not true. Again, they play properly on all my other equipment.

This is the second unit I got from Best Buy. Someone suggested exchanging for another unit. It would be a hassle. Besides, this one just went on sale and an upgrade would co$t more...

I did--they didn't seem to know--that includes the "geek" squad. Apparently this may be a problem w/o resolution. Ill bring a DVD to the store for a "live" demo and see if this is in fact a design flaw and then I'll decide whether to return the unit. Consumers' rated this product well, and it has the best warranty amongst several products 12/12 and overall I've been satisfied with the picture and the features. Go figure.

...and thanks for yours. I'll let you know how this all turns out ...

Could you figure out what is the capacity and write-format of the DVDs that cause the problem?

Hi,

Are the certain DVD's original store bought or burnt? Also, did you try a lens cleaner?

I don't think the region code matters here cause your discs don't have the right region code...they wouldn't even start to play. However, perhaps the video system could...do you know if the DVD's that don't work, are they PAL or NTSC?

Did you happen to ask from where you bought it why it acts like this?

I see...thank you for your detailed answer. This might not be a design flaw but could be a bad batch at the shop. Bringing your discs to the shop would be the wise thing to do...that way, should you decide to change the unit you can try the discs and see that they work properly before taking it home.

My insignia NS-PDVD8 is having a problem reading discs. Some dvds work fine but other dvds make the mechamical lens go back and forth rapidly make a loud chopping noise. What can i do

Try cleaning your disc with alcohol and a soft cloth. If you don't have a good clotH use tissue or toilet paper. Just maker sure you blow off the fibers that are left on the disc after you use a paper product. Hope it helps. If not by a SONY DISC PLAYER AND YOU WON'T HAVE THE PROBLEMS.

Dvd wont load

Try multiple store bought dvd's if all of them don't work then the dvd drive will need to be replaced. Usually the manufacturer will replace it instead of repairing. Repairing is usually as expensive as just buying a new one.

Insignia portable dvd NS Pdvd8 need battery

Hey redhouse2,

Because Insignia® is a brand primarily carried by Best Buy™ stores, there are two basic ways that you should be able to obtain a replacement battery: by contacting Insignia® technical support, or by ordering a replacement through Best Buy Partsearch.

You may always reach Insignia® by calling their toll-free hotline at (877)-467-4289. If you would prefer a self-service option, simply visit the www.Bestbuy.com website, and follow the link at the bottom of the page that says "Order Parts." Additionally, you may always contact a Partsearch agent by calling our toll-free hotline at 888-Best-Buy (888-237-8289), and requesting to speak with a parts specialist.

Please keep in mind that while some third-party companies may carry compatible batteries for this model, if your DVD player is still under the manufacturer's warranty (or a Best Buy Performance Service Plan) you may wish to seek the replacement part through Insignia® or Best Buy™ first to avoid any unnecessary charges.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
