Question about Dell Inspiron B130 Notebook

Watching movies and sound starts to distort

Exactly half way through dvd via the Power DVD player the sound starts to distort. I used to be able to play copies of movies (burnt dvds) but now it will play a quarter way through and pause/stop. It plays regular copies of DVD's but half way through the sound gets bad. Any idea of how to repair that?

Is it a commercially sold DVD or one someone burned? If it is one that someone burned then you may need to find the right codecs for the file type used for the video. You could always download VLC media player which works with many different media file types.

And, I actually JUST noticed you said watching a "movie" and not specifically a DVD. However, all of the above could still help.

Whenever I play a DVD, the playback seems a slow both sound and video. Not sure if I need to clean it or what? I have a Lenova 0769 running XP Pro Version 2002 SP 3.

If it is your cd-dvd rom, or your dvd's, your movies would skip, freeze, like any other movies players such as a scratch dvd played on your home dvd player. So,
did this happen before any updates to your o/s, such if you are using windows media player to play your movies?? If not, it could be a software issue, where some updates will bring your programs up to date, but uses more cpu/memory and even your GPU (graphic processor) and thus cause your movies or video to play back slowly because your computer hardware is underpower to handle the up to date versions., or it could be vise versa where your program will needs an update to the newest version to play. (Usually like adobe, java to watch youtube or online videos). You might want to see if you can play with another program and see if you get different result, or maybe undo your update to previous version.

I have an Acer Aspire 5536. The graphics card appears not able to play movies very well. It jumps and skips a lot when watching movies. The picture may freeze and the picture may stay moving of vica versa....

i think problem lies not with video card but with program which you are using. most probably you have too many programs loading on startup, vista is an os from hell and is not handling priorites very well, but try these solutions:

1. streamline your boot-up to only necessary programs, remove all auto-starting on boot-up like messenger, yahoo, adobe, skype, office and what else what you have, leave only and only what is necessary to run your computer. these program should start only and only when you need them!
2. run ccleaner or similar, remove all rubbish from your computer and streamline your registry as well
3. use "decent" and lightweight video/dvd player, one of the better ones will be free vlc player
4. if you have less than 2gb ram, increase your ram to 2gb
5. if you can afford, upgrade to win7 of same "flavour" as your current vista...

i actually on my own computers disable screen saver when i am watching movies, some savers are very intrusive.

Laptop Sound Problem - Muffled!

The DVD players in laptops are asked to do alot. First I would try is that movie on another DVD player - wtch closely to see or here any abnormalities in the the same location. Your DVD laptop player may very well be bad. Better to get it checked out under warranty. When you take it or send it make sure you tell the tech where exactly the movie goes muffled and if you can send or give the movie to the tech.

My Averstec 6200 series laptop won't come on

Recovering the DVD disk is easy, open out a paper clip, look on the DVD player draw and you will see a tiny hole, gently insert the paper clip and when you feel a little resistance give a gentle push. This will release the door mechanism and allow you to pull the draw out and remove the disk.
It sounds like the machine has major overheated, check the rear air vents for signs of dust, clean them out and try again.

"0 not found" Error message when using DVD player on laptop

This is generally an indication that the DVD end of the drive is going out. First try a different or updated DVD decoding software. It could just be a simple glitch with the software, or that the software is outdated.

Scratchy sound from cd/dvd combo

This could be a couple of Things.
First if it,s DVD Player related. it could be that The DVD Player, needs the laser Head Cleaning. Any dust-grease or similar on the Laser head, will cause Distortion. The second option is the DVD Player itself. Some DVDs are removable Drives. with An eject Rom button underneath the Laptop. This will enable you to remove. Check the drives connection Pins At the rear of the Drive. ** Clean with a Bud/Swab moistened in lighter fluid/Meths** replace the Drive.
The other possible problem would be with your Laptops Sound Card/ Board if Fitted.
Finally The problem could be related to a motherboard Fault i.e Bad earth or other internal Component Fault.
Go simplist first ( clean the DVDs Laser Head.
Then Remove the actual DVD Drive if Possible. ** Check Connections At rear** Ensure that the drive has not been dislodged from its connector to laptop mainboard.

Regards And Good-Luck.
