Question about HP DeskJet 6840 InkJet Printer

Wireless is not working

For some reason the wireless status is disconnected. I am not having any luck getting this fixed.
I tried re-loading the software, no luck there. I re-booted the printer, nothing. I have run a cat 5 from the router to the printer, thinking that make a connection I could use to access the built in web sever. Nada.
Any ideas?

Re: Wireless is not working

Make sure you are in infastructure mode vs as hoc mode if you are using a router. Go through the setup wizard on your printer and ensure you are connecting to your SSID (i.e. your network).

Here are some guidelines to identify and fix your wireless communication issue:
  • What is the status of the Wi-Fi light on the printer? Green light means that it's connected to a wireless network while Orange light means it's not connected to a network.
  • Try to print the printer's wireless network settings to determine if it's connected to your own wireless network. On the printer operator panel, touch the Setup button > Network Setup > Print Setup Page. Your printer will then print the its wireless network information page. Ensure that the printer is connected to your network by checking the Network Card Status, Wireless SSID, Quality or Trouble Code.
  • If printer is not connected to your network, you may need to reset your printer's wireless network settings. On the printer operator panel, press Setup button > Network Setup > Reset Network Settings. The Wi-Fi light on the printer will momentarily turn off then back on to solid orange. You can then run the Wireless Setup Utility application on your computer to reconfigure the printer to connect to your wireless network. On your computer, launch the Lexmark Printer Home application > go to Settings tab > Wireless Setup Utility. Please follow the instructions on your computer screen.

My printer wireless indicator is flashing red and I cannot print

The flashing status of the WiFi light on the printer indicates that it's either trying to connect to a wireless network or it has gotten disconnected from your wireless network.
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, check the WiFi light status. Try to print again.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. If your printer is connected via the USB cable, disconnect it from your computer. Reboot your computer. Unplug and re-plug your printer from the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it your computer. Try to scan again.
If the printer is wirelessly connected to the computer, check the status of the WiFi light. Green light means your printer is connected to your network. Orange means otherwise.

I am trying to install a wireless printer and need the wep key. Can you help please?

Sorry no one has helped you so far but this is a common question.
The WEP Key is usually found on the wireless modem itself. Usually on the bottom of the device. This is one of the reasons that WEP is not very secure.
If for some reason its not there it can also be found by opening a browser window and loading your modem access page (usually at address or something close to this it depends on the modem).
There, under your wireless settings you will find the WEP Key and SSID etc.
If this doesn't help please re-post with more info. Like your wireless modem make and model and we can work from there.
