Click on the wrench tool button, then the picture of the sprockets which is system, then click the lips/mouth. Once there, you should be able to change the voice and text to English. Just click on one of the boxes to change it to your chosen language.
I had this problem and tried to return it 3 times but the store always got it on. I finally figured out that on the bottom of the Garmin is a reset "button."
