SOURCE: drum will not turn?

the motor will most likely be ok, its the capacitor on the motor that normally blows,( the white/grey cylinder with 2/4 wires coming off it, about 3 inches long bolted to the motor its self. can be purchased separtely in eletronic spares shops. all u need is the (uF) number on the original part.

Drum wont turn but the moter does

Hello Deanna - This particular issue could be caused by a variety of reasons. I would suggest trying the following steps:

1) Verify a circuit breaker isn't tripped

2) Advance the timer control dial slowly 360 degrees-

If the washer starts spinning, then that means the motor and drive belt are fine but that there is something wrong with either the timer control dial or the agitator solenoid. Call in a professional for this.

If the washer doesn't budge, then verify that the drive belt(s) is attached and not broken by removing the back panel. If the belt is broken, replace it. If it is loose, then tighten it by loosening up the bolt holding the motor and moving it on its swingarm (much like a car alternator) until there is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch deflection in the belt.
Some washers use reversing motors. It's possible the motor works on the spin cycle but not on the wash cycle. If so, call a pro.

3) Visually inspect the lid safety switch- Is it loose or cracked? If so, the washer might work intermittently, stopping at different cycles.

4) Check motor and drive belt- Remove the main access panel (usually in the back). Is the motor spinning, but the drive belt isn't? If so, then you have a drive belt problem.

I have whirlpool duet wed9200sq. The dryer seems to be working fine other than the drum will not turn. It heats fine and the drum will turn by hand, the belt is fine, no warning codes or other problems.

The drum and belt may be fine but the motor may not be. Since you seem to have access to the drum and belt, you can check to see whether the motor starts. Also check to see whether the belt and tensioner device are working OK

Hi my hotpoint dryer wont turn please help

You have the belt on wrong. There is a side with numbers or writing on it and ribbed side like treads. The tread side should be facing down, making contact with the drum. If the other side is touching the drum then whenever clothes are put in the belt will slip causing the drum not to turn.

Washer won't spin, motor sounds like its working, belt is fine...what do I check or do?

The belt may look fine, but if the motor is spinning, then the belt isn't transferring the motion to the drum.

First, make sure you can turn the drum by hand. Turn off the power. Reach inside the drum, grab the opposite sides and turn. If it moves more than a few inches, then it isn't the drum that's stuck. Possibly the belt tensioner has slackened and needs to be adjusted.
