Hi,
things you can check over here.
1. reinstall the audio drivers from the resource cd. in case that does not work ,download the drivers from
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
just punch in your service tag and select the sound card installed and download the driver
2. reset the bios. that causes issues after reinstallations.
you can do that by following the steps below.
press f2 key on the dell logo screen.
press num lock, caps lock and scroll lok on keyboard so that all three are on. press alt + e together followed by alt + f.
press esc twice and select save changes and exit and your system would restart.
hope that works and fixes the problem.

My laptop's realtek hd audio sound device is not working so what should i do?

If you're running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click the Start button, clickControl Panel, click System and Security, and then, under System, click Device Manager. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
If you're running Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, in the left pan click Device Manager. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand that category. If a sound card is listed, you have one installed. If no sound card is listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if there's supposed to be a sound card installed.
If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there might be a problem.
Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.
If there is a problem with the sound device, it will be stated, and you might need to update your driver for the sound card.
You can double left click on the device marked and click the "Drivers" tab and select "Update Driver Button" to see if this will update the driver.
If this was successful, then restart your computer.

Media player

open audio devices and sound properties in your device manager. Is your sound card listed? If so, highlite it and select properties...then see if it is enabled...if not, click enable this device. If not listed, try re-installing it with install new hardware. Finally, if its there, but wont enable, remove the device and reinstall it. If all the above fails, replace the sound card if its not intigrated. if it is intigrated, buy a PCI Plug and play sound card and install it in a pci slot.

Dear Sir or Madam When I want to play a music on my computer , I get this error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound...

Yes there is something wrong! The sound card driver is corrupted!

YOu need to check on device manager again. Look for your drivers there.

If you do not see the EXACT NAME of your sound card, then the driver that is installed is a DEFAULT driver made by the os.

Ex: This is a sound card driver name listed in Device manager:
IDT HIGH DEFINISION AUDIO

This is an example of a default sound card driver that will not work well on certain sounds or will not work at all:

LEGACY SOUND DEVICE

Even thought you many not see a yellow question mark (which you should be checking for too just in case)on any of the listings for your hardware, chances are you are still using a default sound card driver due to a corruption to its original sound card driver.

So recheck your device manager and find out the exact name of your original sound card. If there is no match to your exact name of your sound card, then you need to REINSTALL your sound card driver again and you will immediatly see your sound card working again :)

If this does not work, you may have to change your sound card.

Hope this helps :)

No Sound!

I am guessing you installed the software that came with it. Check in the Device Manager and make sure that the card says working properly with no yellow exclamation marks or question marks. Check the version of driver you are running and make sure you have the latest one from the manufaturers web site.
Did you go into the sounds and audio devices in the control panel and verifiy the card is there and select the default playback devices? You may also need to open the mixer and make sure that the sound is not muted and is turned up to an audible level. As for codecs, Windows Media Player should play WAV and mp3 files without any additional codecs. You can always download codecs from Microsoft's media player page.
If you need more help or more detailed assistance let me know.

Cheers

Sound card wont play root media files

Hi Hughdog
well, Biostar mobos are know for a lot issues, but depending too, on the OS, windows XP I presume, go on safe mode, and uninstall all audio drivers, and disable on the BIOS audio. then start the PC, and install the audio card. or if is a internal audio reenable again, redetec the drivers, and install them according to the CD and drivers. you should see the play device now and play music correctly.
good luck
