Phone won't ring (although ringer is on) but will only vibrate when phone is "resting". Haven't put phone to sleep (by pushing to right silver button), just let screen power off automatically.
These AT&T tech "Mac" people are unprepared to help. They're not trained and it's nothing like calling AppleCare where they know a's going on.

here i am in Miami..a relatively intelligent business person, but when you call the apple store they treat you like a 2nd class citzen and they are all trained like robots to divert you to the national call center, because "we are not authorized to anwer technical questions"...when did basic human courtesy and customer service get replaced with automatic voice mail options and robotic incompetence....i love apple products but hat their customer service attitude...excetpt when you walk in the store , they are only too happy to help you buy thousands of dollars of product...just beware future clients that if you do not pay for Apple Support , you will enter the never-ending world of computer automated voice prompts and 2nd class citzenry!...luckily i googled my problem and discovered the solution in 1 seconds..you'd think it was rocket science to get one of these "cool jean-wearing, laid back dudes" to help me, but i guess that you need "authorization" to be able to answer this basic question, whihc is not so basic if you never noticed the almost hidden switch on the side of the phone......

Check the top button (called the silent switch) on the top left of your iphone . Push it towards you so the red dot is not showing. Now try calling the phone.

See orange dot above the 'volume control switch' on the left side of your iphone. If it is visible then gently twist the tiny button (where orange dot is visible) towards right. Orange dot will disappear, now your iphone will ring.

There is a button at the top of the volume slider which needs to be switched or flipped up.
Again it is located on the left side of the phone just forward of the volume control.

I had the same problem.. Check the following first:

1) If ur default ringtone is a custom ringtone that no longer exist
2) For the number that is calling your iphone, check if there is an custom ringtone assigned for that number which no longer exist.

The obvious problem is the ringer switch, but something I just figured out on my phone was if you set an individual ringtone for each contact and no longer have that specific ringtone on your phone anymore the phone will only vibrate. Try looking through the contacts list and the ringtone applied to that number then make sure you have that ringtone on your phone. If not, more than likely you just have to choose another ringtone. Yay me!!!!!

I had the same problem i tried everything. Then i figured out that i was after upgrading to 3.0 and had to jailbreak again. So i did not have the ringtones that i had downloaded before the upgrade that i had assigned to people. As soon as i downloaded the ringtones again problem solved. Hope this helps.

If you have an unlocked iPhone with customized ringtones (i.e. from Cydia), maybe you've set one of these as main ringtone. If you accidentally deleted it, your phone will not ring anymore. I hope it helps

SOURCE: iphone doesnt vibrate

I had the same problem: my phone wouldn't vibrate at all... I read a lot on other forums and found the following solution: If you turn the phone face down, and hit it on the metal side a couple of times (I hit it with just enough force not to cause it any damage) the vibrate will come back on. I almost didn't believe this, until I tried it.

Good luck to you all.

SOURCE: İPhone not ringing

You may want to check this:

On the iPhone on the top, left-hand corner, there is a toggle button which controls your settings for silent or ring.

Here is a thread on Apple forums.

Make sure that the switch on the side of your phone is flipped on. That can silent your phone even if it is set to ring in the settings.

My iphne 3 will only vibrate but not ring

If you're missing incoming phone calls due to your iPhone not ringing, you may have accidentally switched the ringer to vibrate or silent, according to Apple. The switch on the left side of the iPhone turns off the ringer and usually sets your phone to vibrate mode, but if your iPhone's vibrate setting is also disabled the phone will instead be set to silent mode. When in the phone's sound settings vibrate mode can be enabled, and the ringer volume of your phone is adjustable.

I PHONE WILL NOT RING BUT VIBRATES

There is a small knob on the left of the iphone. If you can see small tiny red dot there, then your phone is on vibrate mode. Switch that on. Your phone will get back into ringing mode..

Cheers!!

Iphone 3g will not ring only vibrate. The Apple store said there was moisture, but it never was close to water. Tried to reset, and all the setting fixes. Nothing works. Apple said I would have to buy...

try going into the settings on your iphone. Then go to sounds. At the top of that page, it says vibrate and under it it says ring. Make sure that the slider next to the ring tap is on not off. I hope this helps!

The iPhone does not ring, only vibrates

There's a switch on the left side at the top of the iphone that turns the ringer on and off. Make sure this is towards the front of the phone to enable the ringer

İPhone not ringing

you can actually move the button , on the top left hand side of your iphone, over the ringer volume, you will see a red or orange dot, this means the switch has you iphone in silent mode, I was stuck on this, until I found it is a actual switch, look at it closely, you can move it. So where you see the red dot, put your finger on it and move it the opposite way, and I do not mean press the button, I mean, flip the switch on it, then your phone will not be in silent mode anymore,,, this was very annoying, I hope it helps anyone that has the same problem.
cheers!
