First remove old driver and new from add and remove program and unplug the usb cable and turn it off.Restart computer and redown load driver before plugging in printer and turning it on.Make sure you have the correct driver for the operation system.Good Luck !!
If your laptop is running Vista and your old desktop was running XP and the disk you got with your printer had drivers that worked with XP and Vista is not listed on them, it would be a case of incompatibility. You would need to go to the Dell website to download updated drivers for Vista if they are not of the standard Vista driver package. (The driver model changed between XP and Vista making XP drivers incompatible with Vista.)
If you just connected the printer to your Vista PC, the drivers probably didn't load. If you haven't yet, you need to install the Lexmark drivers first before you can use your printer. Unplug the printer before installing, then plug it in when prompted by the software.
Does Vista see the printer when you plug it in to your Dell? You can go to HP web site and down load the drivers for Vista if Vista does not have the drivers already. The key is to bring up Vista and then plug the USB cable into Dell and Vista should tell you it found a new device. If Vista does not have the drivers, unplug the printer and down load the drivers for Vista from HP, follow the instructions from HP and it should work.
Go to http://downloads.lexmark.com, and follow the instructions on the LEXMARK downloads page on how to load a VISTA COMPATIBLE driver for your machine. If you still have problems, contact Lexmark TECHNICAL SUPPORT on the same page.
What do you mean by "not take the download?" Are you trying to load the drivers from the Dell site and have the printer work? I ask because I could not get mine to work with just the drivers offered on the web site. I have to use the original install disk when loading to a machine using Windows XP SP2. Vista on the other hand started running with the downloaded drivers just fine. Have you used the install disk that came with the printer? I am on a home office network but had the same result when I ran a USB cable from my pc directly to the back of the 5100cn. The disk is the only way I can load it and I have had to do it several times over the years when changing the settings on the network. Hope this helps.
The only drivers I know that work are on this website: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=932803
You will need to login to download the drivers.
The file is 39.1 MB. If you have dial-up it will take a while.
You will have to use the New Dell 922 VISTA drivers and not the XP drivers in order for it to work with your Vista Loaded PC. The new drivers for the 922 under Vista are available for download at Dells website. Hope this helps.
