The first symptom was that the H10 would scroll at high speed to the last item on the menu and stay there until reboot and then it would repeat the same thing. It no longer does this, but the navigation strip no longer responds to the touch.

Ok , sorry it took me until now to answer , this is a very simple procedure and I promise it will fix your Iriver! All you have to do is go to main menu , scroll down to settings . Then go to additional settings and at the very bottom select " Database Refresh " . This will fully reboot your irvier H10 , and will flush anything harming your mp3 device .
Hope this helped :)
I fixed this problem for my mate, here's what I did:
1) plugged in H10 to pc that didn't have any iriver software on it a) I've read if you press the "o" button on the iRiver H10 when connecting it will just connect as a usb mass storage device 2) the H10 now appears as a mass storage device 3) right click on the drive, and select format ( I choose quick format) 4) install the iRiverFirmware updater from http://iriveramerica.com/support/mtpupdate/ 5) when you run the updater, it found the H10, then asked if the device was from USA or Europe, mine was from Europe 6) It stated that the iRiver firmware was v0.0, and would install v2.51 (I've seen v2.53 available on the european iriver website but could not download it). 7) proceed with installing the updated firmware 8) on the last screen it says, unplug to complete firmware update - NOTE press Finish first before unplugging 9) switching on the iRiver it 'rebooted' a few times and then when the menu appeared, I connected to the pc and just dropped some mp3 files into the music directory and all was okay.
I am having the same problem. Resetting it doesn't work and now it's locked all the time and I can't do anything with it! There are no suggestions on the iriver website. Have you got any other solutions to this problem?
My Daughter's iRiver scroll pad must be stuck...it just keeps scrolling. She says nothing happened to it. Never got wet etc. I am going to attempt to open it and see what it looks like. The one post says it is very easy, but gives no information. I called the company and they have no USA service centers at all...so if it is out of warranty you are out of luck. They say they hope to have a repair center soon...but it sounds like a company running out of a garage. Good luck and buy some other brand.
