If your HK receiver has preamp outputs, you can bypass its internal amplifier and connect to the input of the Pioneer power amp.

I'm having a harmon kardon avr85 amplifier few months back i have connected my amplifier to my computer it worked fine for an hour but after some time the main power went offof the house and for few months...

So the house breaker went off when it was on? If so the only thin you can do is open it up- four screws on the sides and one in the back if i remember. Look for the fuse near the electrical wire coming in the amp. If it's burrned replce it with same ifnot bing it in

When plugged into my tv they are not very loud, why please

Probably because your TV does not have a built in speaker amplifier. You'll need to hook up a small amplifier to your speakers. Hook up audio cables to the TV AUDIO OUTPUT and then to the INPUT of the amplifier. Hook the speakers up to the AUDIO OUT or SPEAKERS OUT on the amplifier. Probaly have to take a trip to a place like Radio Shack to get the correct cables.... Good Luck.

Harmon Kardon AVR 5

Assuming that the system is properly installed and was working ok before, the problem is usually a blown output amplifier in one channel and the receiver disconnects the speakers to avoid damaging them. In this case, professional repair is required.

Amplifier Power & Speakers

It's a common misconception that a high-powered amplifier will hurt a speaker when the opposite is more true.

Power ratings are specified within certain parameters at or below certain distortion levels. The problem with UNDER-powered amplifiers is that when they reach for the loudness beyond their clean capabilities they get really dirty and start to distort their output. Distortion will kill even a good speaker faster than a loud clean signal will. Stronger amps run more within their comfort zones and rarely strain for more than brief periods.

In no case should you ever try to do like Spinal Tap in their Mockumentary and turn the volume to '11'. ;-)

The HK's are fine. Speakers are a matter of (mostly) personal preference while amps running within their design limitation don't really sound different so go try out some speakers, see if they'll let you audition them at home and have some fun.
