I have a sears/kenmore FL washer 41742142100. Last night I tried to wash my clothes and they were soaking wet when the cycle was over. So I started another load and watched it. THe washer does not change from rinse to the spin mode. However the cycle indicator say that it is in spin mode, but the drum is still turning like it is in rinse mode. Please advice. Thanks

  1. Hi.........This particular machine is a Frigidaire make
  2. Is the machine draining all the way?It wont go in to the spin cycle until the water is drained and the pressure switch is reset.
  3. If the water is drained and the drum just goes back and forth without achieving the high speed spin the speed control is bad.You will find this on the rear base lh side .This is a common problem for this model.
  4. Hope this helps. Please rate my response :)

My clothes are soak and wet after the spinning cycle ends

Could be a gearcase problem or a motor coupler problem or a clutch problem .Best off to call a reputable service company such as Sears.

Kenmore 20422 leaves water and clothes soaked after spin cycle

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Initial thoughts point to one of two places.

1. It's possible that your pump and/or hoses are clogged.

2. It is also possible that the "Motor coupler" between the motor and transmission is worn and cannot provide full power to the tub when agitating.

See the following illustrated descriptions of how to access the pump and motor coupler.

If either is bad or worn, they aren't all that expensive.

I doubt that the problem is the motor since the machine will agitate and spin.

After the spin cycle runs the clothes are still soaking wet

I had that problem at one time with my old washer and what it ended up being was the Washer Dog Agitators were broken and causing the it to slip and not spin correctly. I would try checking the Dog Agitators.
Here's A picture of a typical top-load washer breakdown to show you where they are located --->Here<---
I hope this helps. If that is the problem I bought mine at Sears for about $8, normally in stock item.

My clothe come out very wet at the end of the wash cycle

If the pump is clogged and can't release all the water it won't go into final high spin. Remove lower cover and locate coin catch and unscrew it. Water will come out, so be ready. If it's full of stuff, this is probably the problem.

Soaking wet clothes

Burly Bob,

Is this the same model as listed by the previous poster? If so, does the washer ATTEMPT to go into the spin cycle? That is, does the timer advance to spin cycle properly, and can you hear the transmission or drive motor engage?
