Does not read cd's

i up graded my laptop from windows millenium to windows xp .sometimes the cd-rom does not read cd's and when you click on the cd icon it states that there is no cd. wat could be the problem the crom is LG CRN 8243B
It's detected but unable to read cd's when I click the rom drive it gives message to insert cd.

Wizthe cd you inserted was not compatible with your cd rom. inorder to read all cds you must use cd roms that supports up 60x speed your only have 24x speed thats y it cant read cds that has above 24x.
