Question about Toshiba MW20FP1 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo
This is a weird problem At first my screen was blue asking me question like what language you want? (english) then asked me is this tv or cable? (yes cable) then for some strange reason after that the screen its black and white and the only way you can get some color is if u press zoom on the regular controller(not universal) takes you to line 1 and line 2 my TV Channel for my cable is CH 3 also there's no sound the only thing that has sound is when you play a DVD Whats the cause of this I really need HELP!
SOURCE: LOSS OF T.V. PICTURE
My television has sound but no picture. I can not program the television because I can not see the screen menu. I also have tried to change the antennae but this does nothing to the picture's reception.
Do you have any ideas to correct this problem. There is no warranty.

My Toshiba required replacement of two of the vertical filters/capacitors. Doesn't take long and the parts are inexpensive, but requires a repairman.

You have vertical collapse. This is most often caused by a defective vertical output integrated circuit, an open dropping resistor which feeds the supply voltage to the I.C., one or more defective electrolytic capacitors in the vertical circuit or something as simple as bad solder connections. The latter will usually manifest itself as an intermittent failure. Less likely, but stilla possibility is a defective yoke, but this a rare.
Unless you are handy with a soldering iron and have some experience this is definitely something I suggest that you refer to a qualified technician. Depending on the actual cure for the problem, this would typically be under $100 in my shop, but we are in a small town and prices are cheap. I would definitely recommend a repair on this since it can not be replaced. They don't make a TV/DVD/VCR combination any longer and the picture quality on these Toshiba/Orion combos has been very good over time.
Hope this helped and don't forget to rate...

You have a problem in the vertical output circuit. Check for bad capacitors around the vertical output IC. The value of these caps are marked on the side of them. Thanks for using fixya. Please take a moment and rate this responce.
