For many Canon printers, you can clear the U162 error by pressing and holding the Stop/Resume button on the printer. (You may need to turn off the printer and turn it back on. Then press and hold this button when the error appears on the LCD screen.)

This error can mean that the ink system is having problems pulling ink through to the nozzles or that the printer believes that the cartridge is empty/too old. You can try a deep cleaning To access this, press the Menu button several times until Maintenance is displayed. Then use the left or right arrows to navigate to Deep Cleaning and press OK. Wait until the process is complete (1 1/2 minutes). The second issue is sometimes related to the printer's firmware program that checks the cartridge identification information.

re filled inks have being installed that's why u get u163 or u162 error
try following to resolve yours error u163 or u162

1. Turn off your printer and turn it on again.
2. After the printer initializes, try to copy or print something. The error will appear again.
3. When the error is displayed on the display panel of the printer, press and hold the STOP/RESET button and wait until it self restarts.
4. Release the STOP/RESET button while the printer is restarting.
5. Wait for a few seconds and the pending print jobs will commence.

Error U163 means, the printer detected that your black ink cartridge has been refilled with new ink.
It is very easy to clear this error and keep your printer printing.

How?
1. Turn on your printer.
2. When error U163 appears, press and hold the STOP/RESET buton on the printer. Hold it down until the printer self restart and initialize.
3. if after U163 is cleared off and appear another error, U162, press and hold again the STOP/RESET button and wait till printer self restart and initialize again.

I can find no reference to error u163 only u162 which refers to out of ink. You should be able to solve your problem as the "U" denotes that it is a user error so it will be with either inks/paper or pressing wrong buttons etc.

That error is what most canon printers use that says that the printer cannot detect the ink level in a cartridge. Old cartridges have this problem even though they have never been used as well as cartridges that are either out of ink of have been taken out and put back in a number of times.

Pressing the OK button will allow you to continue to print. Since the cartridge has been refilled, the printer ink level monitoring function will not work

Press and Hold the STOP/RESET button or Cancel/Resume button and wait until it self restart.
Release the STOP/RESET button when the printer is restarting

Those are cartridge errors, the chip on the front tells the printer how much ink is left, when you refill, you also need to reset or replace the chip on the cartridge, or you will keep getting errors.
