My Mac5200 compressor was running fine. I took a break and came back and it builds to 80 psi and hovers there for a long period of time. It will eventually build to around 100 psi but will go no higher and does not shut off. Is there any particular part I should be looking for as a fix?

Piston rings or valves in the head,,, valves are the most likely one.

Makita MAC5200.Brand new.Just broke-in. Pressure goes to 140 PSI and stops.Tries restart at 110 PSI.Motor"Humms"only.Will not restart until pressure below 20PSI.
There is a part called an unloader. It reduces the pressure on the compressor when the unit stops at the desired pressure. The actual unloader may be part of number 50 in this diagram.

Troubleshoot overflow condition

Sounds like worn pressure control valve. I'd replace it.

Air compressor will not restart after it builds pressure and pressure drops to 80 psi

Make sure the power cord is plugged into an adequate extension cord if one must be used. Never less than 12 gauge wire.

The start/run capacitor may need to be replaced.. If there are any ball check type valves, make sure they are not worn or sticking. they would be on the output of the compressor head itself.

My compressor will not go over 20 psi i have a craftsman 921 4 gal 125 psi compressor and it will not build past 20 psi i do not know how to get to the pistons and stuff what do i do?

The problem with compressors not building pressure is usually a bad pressure switch or bad regulator. Does the motor shut off at 20psi or does it continue running and not build pressure? If the motor continues to run with no increase in pressure, the you should go over the machine looking for air leaks from your regulator back all the way to the motor. Any air leak while the compressor is running can cause the pressure to "peak" way before the intended shutoff that it is regulated to.

Compressor kicks on then reset trips after short while. only pumps about 20 psi each time i push the reset?

How far are you from the power source. The compressor draws a lot of power, if the extension cord is too long or the wires in it are too thin, the compressor will have run issues.
Have you plugged it in close to the main circuit panel and tried it there.

Compressor runs for a bit and builds about 30 psi

Remove the belt and try and turn the pump by hand if it turns free then you have a bad motor and it will need to be replaced

My 520 shuts off at 115 psi and throws the reset button

if it throws the reset button when starting back up then the pressure release valve is not unloading the delivery pipe
it should make a loud hissing sound when it cuts out at the set pressure
