Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

2 Answers

Blakck screen i recently reaquired my ti 83 plus from a friend who was borowing it... and whenever i go to turn it on the screen acts as if the contrast is turned all the way up... however adjusting the contrast does nothing... but i remember a certain serise of key strokes that would basicly wipe the calculator completely back to square one and put it into a dignostic check of some sort.. however it has been years since i have even held a ti 83 being that i went to ti 89 titanium which also has the same comand... it is related to holding a key or two while replaceing the batteries... can you infrom me of how to do that because i am at a loss as to how to gain calculator functionality and i may soon need it for my algebra class in case the teacher wants a calculator with a fresh memory

When I turn my Ti-83 calculator on, the screen is black. When I hit the clear button, the screen goes back to normal with 3 black squares located at the top right of the screen. When I enter in data and reach the bottom of the screen and hit enter, the screen goes black again. When I hit graph, the screen shows only part of the axes. When I hit y=, all of the plots are blacked out (can't read them).

Make sure to replace the "battery backup" too the little lithium ion battery

Try Adjusting contrast:
Hold down "[2nd]" key press up or down arrow repeatedly to lighten or darken contrast.

First attempt reseting:
Step 1: Remove all the batteries
Step 2: Hold "Clear" key down
Step 3: Still holding "Clear" key reinstall batteries
Step 4: Still holding "Clear" key press "On" key until home screen is displayed.

Second shot reseting:
remove all batteries including lithium ion (backup battery), wait 3 hours and reinstall batteries.

Third Shot reseting:
Step 1: Remove a battery
Step 2: Hold down "DEL" key reinstall battery
Step 3: Possible msg pops up saying "Waiting ... Please install software" IGNORE msg and take out battery again
Step 4: Reinstall battery do not hold down "DEL" key

reseting will cause the handheld to loose all of its stored memory.

Hope that helps!

0,1,4,7 Keys acting up. I have a ti-83 and

first of all i would give a factory reset a try, if you press 2nd then the + button then scroll down to reset and do a full factory reset, that might fix your problem if it's software based, which would be my guess since it happened after you did something.

I have had my ti 83 plus since fall 2005. recently the calculator has informed me to change the batteries. So i replace the backup battery and the main batteries. now it wont even turn on. Help.

The screen may be too dim to read. Try pressing 2ND->Up arrow key repeatedly while the calculator is turned on and it may darken the screen enough so you can read it.

Whenever i try the graph on my TI-83 Plus the ERR:INVALID DIM 1:QUIT comes up and ive checked the STAT PLOT and i have Plot 1 set as ON.

You have to turn all statistical plots OFF before you draw function graphs. Press [2nd][Y=] to open the statistical plot configuration screen. Press [4:PlotsOFF] and then [ENTER]. When calculator answers DONE you are ready to draw function plots.

Well, if screen shows the RAM CLEARED message, that means your calculator is working. Just press the [CLEAR] key, message will be erased and you are ready to crunch numbers.

Hope it helps.
