Broken e-clip Found the e-clip holding the drive pulley onto the drive shaft on my Maytag(MAV6000AWQ) washer broken. Got new clip and even after aligning pulley and its insert for maximum clearance the e-clip will not fit into the drive shaft groove.

Got clip installed! First I installed the clip without the thrust washer then rotated the pulley backward to load the brake spring and left it that way all night. Next morning my brother come over and with two screwdrivers and four hands we got the clip started then drove it home with a hammer and punch. Thanks to all who took the time to help me out.

This is not an easy clip to put in. If you have purchased the thrust bearing kit (part number 12500036) to get the clip it will be helpful but may still be hard to get the clip in. The kit comes with another washer that is thinner, making it slightly easier to install the clip. The reason it is hard to get in; your brake (part num. 35-2948) has worn and as your brake wears the shaft raises and puts more pressure on the clip (which is probably why your clip has broken). I would advise to change the brake and thrust bearing kit. Even after changing both of these the clip can still be a problem to getting on. You will need to use a small screwdriver to pull the transmission shaft down and get one side of the clip in at a time. It is slightly easier with 2 people, one pulling the shaft with a screwdriver and the other putting the clip on. The only problem, changing the brake requires a specialty tool which is about $100. The tool relieves the pressure of the brake spring which is somewhere between 200-400lbs pressure. You may want to call the local repairman on this one unless you don't mind spending this much on a tool and take precautions to relieve the spring correctly.

Haven't worked on that model in particular, but I'm presuming you're talking about the bottom of the gearbox shaft, dead centre of the w/m underneath. It has a nylon Cam arrangement (?).

If so, you're not alone in having trouble.
They are a right B'Stard to get the circlip back on.
The shaft is sprung, and needs to be pulled out slightly, to see enough of the slot for the cir-clip.
Much easier if the w/m is upside down, but still a pain.
Sometimes, you have to use screwdrivers on 2 sides (approx 120 degrees apart) to lift the shaft & get the circlip started. (Don't stab yourself). Having a 2nd person with you definitely helps.

I changed the roller bearing on one once, struggled & struggled, but found it impossible to get the circlip back on, without removing one of the shim washers.

KAWS750L Washer; motor runs, no drive to transmission. Have the sides off and looking at motor assembly at bottom. How do you access the broken part between motor and transmission?

That's the drive coupling that is broke you will have to remove the 2 clips that hold the water pump on that has the 2 black hoses going to it then slide the pump straight off the motor shaft. Next you will need to remove the 2 screws going onto the two other clips holding the motor to the transmission then remove the 2 clips and the motor will come off replace the drive coupling with a new one might need a socket and hammer to put new drive coupling ends on make center metal bearing even with motor shat and shaft coming out if the transmission and put the rubber boot on the transmission and replace the motor and clips same order as taking it off hope this helps and good luck.

How do i fit the drive belt on a hotpoint wma74 washing machine

Hook the belt over the motor shaft and feed it onto the drum pulley as far as it will go,hold it in place on the pulley with the aid of cable tie clips, then rotate the inner drum anti clock wise by holding the inside of the inner drum. This will draw the belt onto the pulley and the cable ties will snap as the drum rotates.

My Maytag washer, Model A390, spins but does not agitat. The belts feel very loose even when I hold the flywheel.

If your washer doesn't agitate, check these
Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Belts Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts. Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.
Drive pulleys The motor or transmission drive pulley may be worn and unable to turn the drive belt. If so, replace the pulley.
Transmission The transmission could have either of these problems:
  • The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem.

If you suspect a transmission problem, you may have to call a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

Agitator The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline.

Hello, This is somewhat involved and time consuming, but if you are handy, it can be done. First unplug the dryer then start with the two screws in the hinges of the door and then the door lifts out. Two screws on the opposite side holding plastic spacers. Once these four screws are out the front panel tilts right out. The front panel will come off then 4 more holding on the front tumbler support and air duct. Removed wires from light and dryness sensor and clips holding wires to panels. Pull out the tumbler and removed belt. If your dryer gets a lot of use, then you might want to keep going and replace some more wear items while you have it apart. Remove the two drum support rollers and shafts by removing a nut on the back side of each shaft. Remove snap ring off each old shaft, install new rollers and fiber washers onto new shafts, reinstall snap ring and replaced on brackets with the old nut. Remove tension spring off idler pulley bracket and one screw holding on the bracket. Install new pulley and fiber washers on new bracket and reinstall bracket and spring. Placed new belt on tumbler and reinstalled tumbler. Used drill and bit to drill out pop rivits holding on the two front glides that are attached on the front tumbler support and installed new glides and pop riveted in. Reinstall front support and air duct checking that felt tumbler seal front and rear are in place. Placed new belt on motor pulley and idler pulley. Reinstall front panel.

Tip the machine back remove the belt try to turn the drive pulley manually . sorry the larger pulley in the centre. if you can turn it counter clockwise and feel the inner drum moving then the thrust bearing is ok. if not you may need to replace it.Also a bad lid switch can cause this problem.

thinkin your installng a new thrust bearing kit?? new one is different(actually better not as many washers). Laying this unit on its back or even side will alleviate some of that tension your experiencing. My problem is always trying to fit the E-clip back on after installing the pulley. Turnin the pulley i beleive clockwise will engage the brake and give you a little more play in the shaft. i usually get that clip on slightly and then grab and squeeze on with pliers
