Question about Jenn-Air 21.6 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Filtered Ice and Water

1 Answer

My fridge is not cooling at all. All fans are running properly and the condenser unit is hot, but coils are not cool. I can't hear the condenser unit run, but when I turn off, I hear something click in or near the unit.

I have checked the rear of the fridge. The cooling fan runs good, as well as the circulating fan inside. I have removed the inside back wall exposing the cooling coils and they are clear and warm, no ice build up. If the condenser unit is bad, would it be warm?

Hi,
Condenser might be HOT, that's fine but it should not be such that you could lay Eggs on it. Make sure that the Condenser Fan should be Running. Have you checked the REAR of the Freezer?
Do you see any Ice at the back of the Freezer. If yes, take a blower and melt it. I have seen many cases, where the Dirt and Debris would make the Fridge to act like this. Take a Vacuum and clean the coil.Make sure that, when you Turn ON the Fridge, you should Hear a Click or Humming Noise from Compressor.
If problem remains the same, then take everything out of the fridge. Keep the Fridge Unplugged for 24 hours with the Doors Open. Turn it ON after 24 Hours, if the Problem is Solved, your fridge have a Defrost Problem.
The Procedure to Check Defrost Timer, Heater and Thermostat is :-

Now,
It could be an Overload Relay.
Procedure to check Overload Relay is :-

Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

Condenser Could be a Reason but if Condenser Does Not Run or it is Clicking ON and OFF, that means you have Faulty Overload Relay which i already explained you above.

Condenser Unit is the Last thing, you need to check. They could result in Fridge being Warm, but as i said, i would still doubt that without proper diagnosis.

    Thanks!!

Have you checked the condenser as i never seen this fridge but it if it has a fan cool condenser and it may need cleaning this will make a difference. Also worst case it maybe short of gas when it is running check the suction side pipe that goes into the compressor it shouldn't be to hot if so maybe it is short. As im Aussie i don't see this monster of a fridge but i hope this helps.

I have kelvinator fridge it doesn't cool in both compartment we replaced the compressor il coold down for only 3dayes then returned back to hot state

is the condenser fan running back there?also did you clean out the condenser coil?usually when the middle strip gets hot the coil is filled with dust or the fan where the compressor is isn't running.the condenser fan keeps the compressor cool and all the heat from the machine escapes out through the condenser coil.check this, also the start device could be bad on the compressor, send model number next time you write so whoever helps you can look up your machine.hope this info helps you out.

The fridge seal magnetic around the doors on both the fridge and freezer are extremly hot to the touch.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Your condenser coils are HOT so the front of your unit it HOT. Either the condenser coils are blocked with lint or the condenser fan has stopped running You can place a floor fan pointed at the bottom rear of the unit to cool things off and get by until you get any needed parts or complete the repairs but.. you need to find out what is going on in the condenser coil area. Lint or fan issues. One of the 2. Get rid of the lint, clean and lubricate the fan motor with turbine oil or replace the fan notor. Those are the remdies.

Double door fridge freezer not cooling down heating the panel between the doors

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
The symptom you describes it that of a condenser fan not running. Open the fiberboard panel in the back of the unit and check for substantial lint build up on the condenser coils and fan. Clean it thoroughly. If the compressor is running the condenser fan is supposed to be running. You can push gently the fan blades to see if it is trying to turn....

Once your done cleaning... if you can not get the fan going.. use an external fan directed at the rear bottom of the refrigerator until you can get a new fan. All the external fan is doing is removing the heat... that the fail fan can not.

The noted hot area between the doors should just be warm to the touch once the condenser coils are bing cooled properly.

Kelly

Fan not working right very noisey fridge runs all time back of fridge gets hot

replace the fan and it will also cool down the back. the back shoudl be hot somewaht as that is how it cools the inside. its called a heat exchanger. takes the heat from int he fridge to the outside and then the fan cools the coils on the back or underneath the fridge. if the fan is noicy then maybe needs to be cleaned. I foudn that many have dust buildup and that makes it wobble and not cool. Best to repalce the fan 9cheapo to do) and see if that works. Also make sure you vacume the coils in the back of the fridge . They need to have free flowing air to work properly.

Both Freezer & Fridge compartments not cooling

clean the coil behind the fridge or under the fridge (where ever they are) and make sure both fans are running, the one in the freezer and the one underneath. If that don't work you may be low on freon change fan motor

DOOR JAM BETWEEN FREEZER AND FRIDGE IS GETTING HOT

This usually means that your condenser fan has stopped. That's the fan outisde (under or in back of) the fridge. It should be running whenever the compressor runs. Heavy accumulation of dust or anything that obstructs airflow could also cause it. But the most likely culprit is the fan.
