Is there anyway to remove rotten joists from caravan walls without taking off awning gully

Sometimes it is easier to carry out repairs to the studwork by removing the interior boarding. It is difficult to remove the outer skin without some damage except some of those now considered old enough to be classics and in many cases after removal the very thin outer skin will be past refitting.

The studwork will rot only when there is water ingress. The sealers shrink, become hard and inflexible and crack whether the caravan is moved frequently or not. Such is the way they are manufactured the rot can occur a good way from the water ingress due to capillary action.

Replacing a stud or more than one or repairing the framework can be considered a temporary repair which could become almost permanent if the timber and surrounding area is treated against both wet and dry rot and woodworm and the joints are thoroughly raked out and resealed, preferably with a modern structural or semi-structural adhesive sealer.
It is a time-consuming task that needs a dedicated attention to detail.

Making a permanent repair is a very large project and the removal of the awning rail will be necessary. It is quite possible the source of the water ingress could have been that rail.
Good luck!

Why do my tires on my car loose air overnight?

There are multiple possibilities...
1. There are punctures in the tires.
2. The valve stems are rotting and leak air.
3. The tire sidewalls are dry rotted and leaky
4. The rims have rust or debris on the bead preventing a good seal
5. The tires were installed improperly, damaging the bead.
6. Someone is letting the air out.

Carb joints dry-rotted

My understanding is that they have a metal liner sandwiched in between the inner and outer layers of the carb joints. Mine are cracked and look like they are breathing when running. Mine are not leaking and arw doing fine. 96 Royal Star.

I have a whirlpool cabriolet top load washer. Should there be any water in the basket?

In the outer tub their will always be some water to keep the seals moist and prevent them from dry rotting
After the cycle is over their should be no visible water in the inner tub

typically the reason you would see standing water in the inner tub after cycle complete is a blockage in the drain pump

The 6.5 foam ring

This is a very common problem and I don't know why companies still use foam.

The ring is called the "surround" and the problem is known as "surround rot".

There are 3 fixes.

Replace the entire driver. (most expensive)

Recone the driver (tear out the old cone + surround + spider and glue in a new one using the old basket).

Refoam the surround. (replace just the foam surround).

I know of one location in my hometown (Ottawa Ontario, that does re-foaming and people that do this are few and far between).

If you can find someone to refoam it go that route, failing that do a recone. A recone will last just as long as a new driver.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

The orange circle around the speaker seems to be dry rotted. But the speaker works fine, except on heavy bass tones. M40 speakers

If these are Cerwin Vega speakers or any other for that matter thay need to be refoamed. See a local speaker repair shop about refoaming. Dont use them till you get them refoamed. It is like the speakers suspension and stops the driver from going to far in its excursion.

Any audio repair shop can do this repair. You can do it as well. There are kits available -- Internet is the best place to find the kits.

THE WOOFER RATTLES REALLY BAD WHEN ANY MUSIC OR VOCAL IS RUN THROUGH IT, WE HAD THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND REPLACED THE WOOFERS IN THE FRONT OF HOUSE MAIN PA SYSTEM, THE VOICE COIL WAS BAD.

you can have the woofer reconed, refoamed or replaced. if the voice coil is bad then you can only refoam or replace. if the problem is that the poly foam surround has dry rotted, then it can be refoamed or you can purchase a DIY refoam kit. there are also many replacement woofer options.

Remove Outer Glass Of Oven Door

On my Zanussi ZDF 866 it goes like this:-

Rest the door with its top edge on your work surface. Once the bottom two screws are removed, pull the outer glass away from the bottom edge of the door just enough so that the brackets fixed to the outer glass (into which those two screws went) clear the bottom edge of the door. Then pull the outer glass up towards you parallel to the door (there are now screws hoplding the top edge on this model).

It may need one side to be pulled and then the other to release it from the metal slot at the bottom.

I would recommend great care with this given that a) your door may be different, b) it could be held more tightly and c) you are dealing with glass. Recommend taking all precautions including eye protection and suitable gloves. Proceed slowly and carefully (this did not need much force on my door). If you're not sure at any stage, choose discretion and either give up or pay someone to do the job to avoid paying for a new glass or hurting yourself.
Hope this may help someone.
