You need to clear the cache. You can call microsoft at 1-800-4myxbox, and they will guide you through the process. It may take 10-15 minutes to do but you have probably spent more time than that being frustrated.

Sorry to say it, but that's what a dead/failing hard drive will do. If you're out of warranty, you'll need to get a new one. To be sure, see if you can do anything with your drive on a friend's 360. It can't hurt the other system. :)

Our Xbox 360 will not save. Have reformatted the HD several times, and after a few minutes it says it is unformatted. Do we need a new hd?

Hi,

Yes there is a problem with the hard drive and a new one will be possibility, you can however keep trying to format the drive or use a friends Xbox to try and format it. Problems like this are usually due to bad or unreadable sectors.

Sounds like the hard drive will not initialize . This problem is most likely
your hard drive. Try another hard drive . If the problem persist then you have
time out error that will some times trip the 360 to display 3 red lights . First
try another drive . And post the results and I'll advise accordingly.

the problem may come from the hard drive which means that it may have a virus like a computer or that the hardrive may have a malfuntion and cant be able to read to the xbox 360 so it is considered to buy a new hardrive and recover your profile/ enter xbox.com to get all the downloads that was on the last hard drive

Recently bought a refurbished 360 elite. The system knows a hard drive is present, but it's listed as "unformatted," and won't let me use it to recover my gamer tag. Formatting it does absolutely nothing....

To make the xbox360 hard drive 'formatted' to the console you need to follow these simple steps.
1, Go to the system settings on the dash board.
2, Select memory settings and highlight Xbox360 hard drive option, do not select, but press the yellow or the Y button.
3, From the menu that appears, select 'Format' and the hard drive will then be formatted to the console enabling you to use it as it was meant to be used.
Other than that, you will need a new hard drive as the one they have provided is faulty.
Lesson learnt for buying the cheaper 're-furbished' product. I hope this helps. Good luck.

New Xbox console unformatted

I would suggest giving Microsoft a call and have them help you. If the hard drive is indeed faulty, they should be able to replace it for you at no charge.

Hard drive Self Test

If I may ask a dumb question, was the new drive formatted prior to running the test? A unformatted drive will fail.
