Question about Moen & Posi-Temp Single Handle Shower Or Tub Valve
My Mom's shower is about 6 years old. I think the handle is a Moen T 2111 and when I turn it to hot there is NO water. Plenty of cold water. She's 84 & handicap so not into cold showers, any help out there?
Sure - there is always help at FixYa!
This sounds like a bad cartridge. They can be replaced. To replace the cartridge:
Turn off the water to the tub/shower.
Remove the handle cover (it should pop off)
Remove the center screw (usually phillips head)
Remove the retaining clip holding cartridge in - you can use a pair of long nose piers or a small screwdriver
Grab the cartridge with a pair of pliers and pull straight out. It may require a little force - there are O-rings around the cartridge to keep it from leaking.
Check the cartridge bore (the hole where the cartridge was removed)
Clean any debris or scale - lime away or CLR will work
Apply a little bit of soap around the new cartridge to help it slide in easier. Push it all the way in and make sure it is seated. Re-install the clip (you should have received a new clip with the replacement cartridge)
Turn the water back on a check for leaks
If OK, reinstall the knob screw, and cap.
Let Mom take her warm shower...:)

Testimonial: "Thank you very much. I will try my Nursing expertise at fixing this plumbing problem, darn economy I wish I could afford to hire a plumber. Thanks. "
The best tip to use in pulling out a calcified cartridge on a Moen Shower center Hot/Cold adjust, is to put the crew back in all the way and use that to put your teeth end of your Lineman, needle nose or any tool you can use to bit down on the inside of the screw head to give you the leverage to pull it straight out.
*2nd tip is instead of replacing cartridges over & over because of hard water deposits or paying a Plumber an ungodly fee, purchase silicon liquid lubricant and run it through the very hard to turn cartridge. Continue turning and adding silicon liquid drops until the cartridge is loosened up.
Reinstall after lubing the outer rubber seals, which you should clean & push the cartridge into the Shower head.
Replace Handle and check how easy it turns, saving you $100's.
**Perform this procedure every time you notice the turn becoming harder & the cartridge will last a good long time.

Turn off the water and remove the cartridge from the valve. You will have to remove the cap, knob, screw and cartridge clip. Pull the cartridge out (carefully) and inspect it for loose parts, plugging, or if the spool valve is blocking the hot water port. If it is, it's defective and will need to be replaced. You should be able to get a replacement at most home improvement stores
