Um, its hard to understand you, but to my understanding you don't know which is positive and which is negative... Striped= Positive, bold= Negative, or Red= Positive, black =Negative. Lastly + positive - negative

How to trouble shoot a sony sa-wm20 that stopped working

With subs, it's either
  1. a blown fuse (no power at all at the sub);
  2. a broken input (#1 cable, #2 sub input socket, #3 blown sub plate amp);
  3. incorrect connection at the receiver end or the wrong settings
You've ruled out most of this because another sub works in its place. So what's left is either sub settings, or a busted sub.

The sub settings for testing should be: Crossover frequency - Max; Volume - Mid; Phase - Normal.

As a quick test, unplug the sub cab from the amplifier/receiver end. Switch on the sub and turn the volume down all the way. Briefly put your finger across to short the RCA/phono tip and ring. The sub should make a buzzing sound. You now know that the sub is working and the cable appears to be okay or not.

Most subs auto sense a signal. So if the Sony isn't doing that then there's the problem. Given that these are very much a budget sub, I'd be inclined to have a look for something simple such as a broken solder joint or bulging capacitor. If it's anything more indepth then the cost to repair will outweigh the value of a replacement.

I have a sony sub model sa-wm20 will it work with this mini system

Read the manual.

You would use the Speaker Terminal hookup option. Your front speakers would attach to the sub's speaker terminals.

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

Can i hook up my SA-WM20 subwoofer to my sony DAV-S500 home theater

As long as your sony reciever has a sub out connection you should be able too. This powered sub you have has a rca sub input which should coincide with the receivers rca sub out.

Denon / MK Sub Hookup

you can do this one of two ways, you can use just the left "mono" on your sub or use a y connector. If the sub doesn't show the left as mono then YES you need a y cable

SA-AX720 no subwoofer signal?

THIS UNIT HAS NO SUB WOOFER AMP IN IT. THE ONLY WAY TO OVER COME THIS IS TO HOOK THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SPEAKERS STRAIGHT TO THE SUB WOOFER AND THEN GO FROM THE SUB WOOFER BACK TO THE INPUTS ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT FOR THE FRONT SPEAKERS. THE SUB WOOFER THIS WAY WILL EXTRACT THE BASS AND THE FRONT WILL RECEIVE THEIR PART. THIS SOUNDS CRAZY AS HELL I KNOW BUT THAT'S HOW I GOT MINE TO WORK. THE OUTPUT FOR THE SUBWOOFER IS USELESS AND PUT THERE FOR YOU TO HOOK UP AN AMP FOR A SUB WOOFER. EVERYTHING HAS SHORT COMINGS, AND THAT'S THE ONE FOR THE AX-720.

Sub-woofer Malfunction

sub can be detecting signal from your amp. maybe your amp has some small output when in standby mode. some amps throughput signal from satellite boxes when they are supposed to be off.
try shutting off that signal source as well.
good luck
