Question about Creative Labs Muvo V100 MP3 Player

No longer holds a bookmark

I am in the middle of a long audiobook, and for some reason, my muvo 100 no longer holds the place if I switch to a new folder. It worked fine for the first half of the book, but now starts over if I touch anything...quite frustrating when I'm listening to a 5 hour long file!!! What happened?

Re: No longer holds a bookmark

I've had my MuVo V100 for a year and can tell you it only saves the bookmark for the last file played. Hence, if you're into a long audiobook, don't switch to another. I've taken to making note of where I am because if the battery dies while playing it will also go back to the last saved bookmark.

TIP: if you accidentally switch away from a book you're listening to, pull the battery BEFORE turning it off -- it will revert to your last bookmark.

I recently purchased a Sansa Clip MP3. I downloaded audiobooks to it but they will not play. What do I need to do?

Not true!!! The Sansa Clip is actually the best mp3 player I have found for listing to audiobooks. Here is what you need to do. Download the latest firmware update on the Sandisk website. You must do this or it just won't work unless you are downloading books from Audible.

I use the Overdrive Media Console and download mp3 and WMA books from my state library. When you hit transfer, be sure it hit advanced options. Browse until you select the audiobook folder on your player. Then transfer to that.

The player will bookmark your last place on anything that is in your audiobook folder. You can easily switch back and forth between your music and book without losing your place! Love it!

It even has a sleep timer on it. I'm in heaven.

Creative Zen V Plus Bookmarks

A little known feature on this player is the ability to use bookmarks, up to 10 of them. Many of you listen to podcasts or audio books which may be fairly lengthy and if you have to stop in the middle of what ever you're listening to, normally when you go back to your player you would have to start all over again.<br /><br />A note about <span style="font-style: italic;">"resuming playback":</span> If you shutdown during playback of a podcast or audio book (not pausing or stopping playback first) your Zen will automatically resume playback when you start it back up.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Zen V Plus Bookmarking</span><br /><br />You can insert bookmarks during playback. I cant organize my downloads, and I listen to audio books and would like to see if there is a way to bookmark or save the place in my book where I left off. I have to sit there and hold to fwd button...

If you are a newbie, and you primarily want the mp3 player for audiobooks, then go ahead and take this player back to the store - I'll tell you why:
The deal between Audible and Philips fell through before the latest series of GoGear's was released. Therefore, even though the player has an Audible folder, it will not properly play Audible audiobook files. Sad, but true.

Your post reminds me that I need to write a Consumer Watch article on mp3 players that claim to play audiobooks - 90% of them will not easily allow you to play audiobooks - you will have to jump through hoops.

If you still want to try, here is what you want to do:
1. Delete any audiobooks off the GoGear, but make sure that you have a copy of the audibooks on your computer itself.
2. Open Windows Media Player. Find your audiobook files in your library. If they don't show up, then you will have to move your mouse over the Library tab - a small black arrow should appear underneath the word "Library" - click the black arrow and select "Add to Library". Click "Add" and find the folder in which your Audible files are stored. It may take several minutes, but Windows Media Player will add these files to Windows Media Player.
3. Right-click an Audiobook file starting with Chapter 1 of whatever book, and select "Advanced Tag Editor". One-by-one, manually assign an a track number to each audiobook chapter - Track 1 for Chapter 1, Track 2 for Chpater 2, etc.
4. Now, re-add the audiobook files to your GoGear.
5. You might additionally have to go into the Settings menu of your GoGear, and turn Shuffle mode off - your user's manual can show you how to do this.

Sound like a lot of work? You betcherbottom dollar it's a lot of work. This particular mp3 player is not the best for audiobooks.

Sansa dioesn't recognize audiobooks

Maybe the new firmware will fix this.

"OGG placed in Audiobook or podcast folder shows up in Music directory." (see below)

  • FLAC decoder support
  • Allow Podcasts to skip episodes using FF / REW
  • New startup and shutoff images
  • Improved the time to rebuild the metadata
  • Improved M3U playlist support
  • Enhancements for sorting Podcast contents which do not have their track number ID3 tag information
  • Separate missing license error message for Audible and generic Audiobooks. Message changed to instruct the customer in how to resolve the problem
Bugs Fixed:
  • OGG placed in Audiobook or podcast folder shows up in Music directory
  • Delete song from a long playlist causes the device to hang
  • Selecting “Back to Music List” while playing FM/Voice recordings will display double “Play All” on screen & will cause device to hang upon selecting “Play All”
  • Certain tag information for mp3 files will cause the device to hang or freeze
  • Made OGG file Tags not case sensitive
  • Noise problem on voice recording
  • Device in MTP mode will jump back to AutoSelect mode after UI format
  • Device behaves erratically when file extension got changed (i.e. .txt to .mp3, .jpg to .wma)
  • All Audiobooks should show 1/1 if Chapter Mode is OFF
  • Certain Rhapsody tracks show clicking noises
  • Deactivation message “Synchronize to listen to your Audiobooks” for Audible is uninformative and irrelevant

Audiobook download

Playing Songs, Audiobooks, and Podcasts on iPod shuffle iPod shuffle allows you to play your audio files in a couple different ways—you can play songs, audiobooks, and podcasts in the order in which they appear on your player, or let iPod shuffle work its namesake magic for you (that is, shuffle the files by playing them randomly).
Show Me How
If you want iPod shuffle to play audio files in the order in which they appear on the player, move the switch on the top of the iPod shuffle to the play in order (circular arrows) position. If you want iPod shuffle to play songs in random order, move the switch to the shuffle (crossed arrows) position.
ip02_playfnky_04_shuflebutton.gif This iPod Shuffle is set to shuffle.
To play music, an audiobook, or podcast, just press the Play/Pause button. To skip to the next song (or a different song if you're in shuffle mode, or a different chapter if you're listening to an audiobook or podcast), press the Next/Fast-forward button. To fast-forward through the audio, hold down the Next/Fast-forward button. To go back to the beginning of a song (or the previous chapter), press the Previous/Rewind button; press this button twice to go to the previous song or hold it down to rewind through the file.
To stop play, press the Play/Pause button during play. To turn off iPod shuffle, move the switch to the Off position (you shouldn't see green beneath the switch).

Download audio book

I bought a MuVo V100 specifically because a sister uses it very successfully for audio books. I'm still learning because it doesn't seem easy to do, but she managed fine. So don't assume it won't work for books.

The icons are confusing to deal with but the book will be in the "folders." When you find Library A, you push the button thing IN. Then you scroll sideways until your title comes up.

I've done it myself but kind of accidentally. Can't do it twice the same way!

Muvo 100

My MuVo was having problems until I installed the latest firmware. The last firmware release was in July 2007. If you haven't updated the player's firmware since then, try downloading it and installing Creative MuVo V100 Firmware 1.05.01.

If you can't get your computer to even recognize the player anymore, you could try reinstalling the Creative Mass Storage Driver
