Good day,
Sounds like the defrost system has failed. Without a make, style and complete model number I can't go much further, but here is a good tutorial on auto defrost systems..

Checking the model, it turns out the defrost control is electronic, and the heater and defrost tstat are sold as a unit.

If so you'll be forced to buy all three components. Pricey, but in the long run may be the best long term solution.

Frezzer not cold enough

Cold originates inside the freezer. TA fan pushes the freezer air into the fresh side. So... if that fan ain't working or ice is built up inside the freezer then the freezer will work but the fresh side will suffer. If you have a defrost problem you could find out real easy. Just unplug it and wait a while (depending on how bad it is iced over you might need to go a few days). Plug her back in and if it works ok for a few weeks but does the same thang again then you have a defrost problem. The defrost system has 3 components defrost timer/control defrost heater and defrost termination thermostat. Why do we need a defrost termination thermostat you say? The defrost length is 21 minutes. if that heating element were to stay on 21 minutes your goose would be cooked instead of defrosted. The termination thermostat is designed to shut down the heater when the temp inside the evaporation compartment reaches 50f. So what goes wrong? Timer hangs up electronic control takes a dump, heater goes bad, Termination thermostat goes bad. Number one component that goes out? Termination thermostat. Look for swelling.

You don't say how old the frig is ... you cant have a frig run like this. On one day ... off the next ... slam the door and it works ... Either get a new frig of get this one repaired professionally. Probably best to get a new frig. I would guess minimum service call charge will be $250.00

Fridge and freezer not staying cold. I have unpluged the fridge for 24 hours and then plugged it back in. The first few days the fridge and freezer were fine now it is not getting very cold again.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Freezer works fridg dosent stay cold

When plugging it back in, check to see if you can feel air circulation (from vents in the top-rear) on the refrigeration side.
Check again after the fridge starts to warm.
There is a fan which is supposed to distribute the cooled air from the freezer to the fridge; this may be failing after the fan has warmed from operation. The bearings in these is primitive and can get sticky impeding the fan's rotation. Replacement of that fan is not covered by the (longer) compressor warranty.

Frigidaire upright freezer Model #FFU17C3AW1 Not keeping cold

Yes that is the correct part number.
If a new cold control does not correct the problem. Replace the compressor start relay.

Cold Water not squirting out cold water

To resolve this problem, unplug the dispenser and let it sit for about 24 hours. I had this problem happen to me and I took the unit apart to find out the cause. I discovered that the the water cooling mechanism developed a big chunk of ice inside of it and it basically blocked the flow water. Allowing that ice to melt should resolve this problem. It did for us.

Refrigerator and Freezer not getting cold?

unplug the machine and let it completely defrost with the doors open overnight. then try it. if it still does not get cold then you know it is a more serious problem, like a compressor $300+
if it works for a couple days then freezes up again then you know it is a defrost problem, less serious problem <$100

Fridge not staying cold

did you let the fridge stay in it's new place for 24 hours up right before turning it on?
Try turning it off for at least 24 hours and start it back up again.
If you moved it on its side the compressor oil flows into the lines and must beable to drain back down before using it.
If not you'll seeze the compressor.
not good.
