Tension can be tricky because it must be adjusted to each different types of fabric and proper needle size to each fabric try google sewing machines then enter the model number and then enter HOW TO THREAD

How to tighten top thread when it bubbles on bottom of fabric for a Janome Memory Craft 3500 .Book instructions do not help.

there is a manual pdf down load from that explains where the thread tensioner is and how to adjust page 17 of 46 pages
it shows how to thread the machine correctly
the tensioner is a wheel at the top of the machine that turns 0- 6 notches to the left or 0- 6 notches to the right ( 12 possible tensions)
download the manual( free) as it explains probably better than the user manual
it is for your machine
I found it by going google and typing in--how to adjust thread tension on a janome memory craft 3500 and found that manualslib site

Is it possible to change the foot it also possible

Some machines do have a presser foot pressure adjustment. Since you didn't provide a make/model, we're not able to assist further. You'll have to consult your owner's manual.

The upper tension is usually totally adjustable. As a matter of fact, the upper tension is the first place to adjust tension. Just be sure to RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread so it will seat in the tension disk. If the upper thread is showing under the fabric, it is too loose. If the bobbin thread is pulling to the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight. Tension will change with needle, thread, and fabric, so before beginning a new project, always test on a scrap piece of the fabric first. The tension is correct when the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric.

As a sewist, you should become comfortable with adjusting the upper tension as needed.

it is possible that when threading the machine the thread has gone behind the tension plates and not between them
check and re-thread the machine to ensure that that has not happened

My thread keeps bird nesting on the bottom of my fabric what am I doing wrong? What are the correct settings for a straight stitch?

Is your bobbin threaded correctly? You should be able to pull out the thread slowly while feeling it very slightly holding back. It should not pull out easily or quickly.
Could be something wrong with your tensions, try adjusting the upper tension first by starting at the middle setting and working gradually higher and then lower till you get a neat even stitch.

How do I fix the tensio. It's a birds nest of thread at the bottom

bunching underneath is thread tension at the needle too loose
tension numbers are only a guide as different size threads require different tensions as do different material thicknesses
recheck the threading of the machine as it is possible that the thread is behind the tension washers and not between
you can try adjusting bobbin thread tension but as I stated bunching underneath is normally needle thread tension
you can test the needle thread tension setting by pulling the thread before you thread the needle and if altering the tension doesn't alter the effort required to pull the thread ,then the problem is in the tension plate adjustment

How do I adjust the tension on brother SE-350?

Before you go adjusting tensions, make sure your upper thread is threaded properly. Always thread with the presser foot in the UP position so the thread can slip easily between the tension discs. Also make sure there are no wraps around the thread spool spindle.

Be certain that you have the bobbin properly inserted as well.

Once you are absolutely certain that there is no issues is threading. The tension is adjusted by a wheel on the top of the machine. Left to loosen, right to tighten the tension.

I can't get the tension on my sewing machine adjusted correctly. Right now the upper tension is turned as high as it will go and I've loosened the lower tension but I still have the upper thread looped...

It is possible that you threaded the machine with the presser foot down.

This creates loopy stitching because the thead never entered the tension control. Foot down = closed tension.

Put the settings back to their normal settings.

Raise the presser foot and re thread the machine.

My tension is off.

the problem you describe is called bird nesting and is a needle tension problem
it is not tight enough
causes are tensions plates are no responding to the spring pressure , thread not between the plates or wrong settings for the material and thread in use
I find it best to disregard the settings and adjust the tension but pulling the thread through the plates just before i Thread the needle
properly adjust tension will require an effort to pull the thread
