Do the following steps to solve your PS3 problem :
Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it and then about 5 seconds later it will beep again. Let go of the power button when you hear this second beep.
Step 3. Wait for your PS3 to start.
This solution basically resets the video output back to standard definition.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Note: How to reset video output settings
If you are attempting to change to an HDMI cable from a different video cable or if the video output settings do not match those required for the display in use, the screen may stay black. If the screen stays black for more than 30 seconds, you may need to reset the video output settings of the PS3.

To reset video output settings:

  1. Turn the PS3 system off by holding the Power button on the front of the console till you see the power light turn red.
  2. Then hold the power button on the front of the console for at least five seconds until you hear a second beep to turn the system on again. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

Minimum Requirements

  • PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system
  • SIXAXISTM wireless controller (and USB cable)
  • AC power cord
  • HDMI cable1 (sold separately)
  • TV or display monitor with HDMI port and capable of displaying picture in HD resolution
  • Updated system software installed on your PS3
Visit PS3 System Software Update to download and install the most recent version.
  • TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port
You need to know the TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port on your TV. For instance, if your TV has multiple "Input" or "Video" channels, (i.e., "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc.), you will need to toggle through each "Input" channel on your TV until you find the correct channel that displays the HDMI picture. This is important to remember, especially if you do not see the HDMI picture after you connect the cable and configure the PS3 settings. Please refer to the TV instruction manual for more information.

I am trying to connect a playstation 3 to my tv using a hdmi cable but it says "no support". i can hear it but there is no picture.

Try connecting it using HDMI and the standard composite video. Then when you press the power button on the PS3, Press and hold it, it will beep once for turning on, then beep again, once you get the second beep, release the button. Switch your TV to the composite mode and go to your display settings. Then change your display settings to the HDMI cord and the screen will most likely go black. Then switch your TV to the HDMI mode and finish the settings change. Then, change the audio settings to audio as-well. Hopefully this helps. Nathan Taylor.

When i turn on my ps3 the screen loads but the xmb does not what can i do to fix this.

Are you using an HDMI cable? Or did you use that before but are now using a regular cable?

-Hold the power button until you hear the beeps; the video settings will have reset themselves.
-Plug in the regular cables (yellow, white, red)
-If you can see the image, then stop right here
-If you want to use an HDMI cable, then follow the above steps, but...
-Go to Settings-->Display Settings-->and change it to HDMI or whatever cord you are using
-Restart the PS3, using the cable you set it to use.

My screen wont work i tried a hdmi cable but wouldnt work what do i do?

If you can get a display with the default setup (original cords) follow this procedure:

a) Plug in BOTH the HDMI cord and the other display cords to your TV.

b) On your TV, using the disignated video input (not HDMI) you should have the main screen

c) Go to settings, and then display settings. Set up your display to read HDMI. Your screen will go dark.

d) Quickly change your TV input from video to HDMI and it should still be displayed. Save the changes.

e) Shut off the system, unplug the original cords leaving in just your HDMI cord and your designated audio cord (preferably fiber-optic).

f) Turn it back on and you should be good to go.

Hdmi doesn't work

Make sure everything is pluged in correctly and the Playstation 3 is on stand-by. The using the power button on the console hold it for about 5 seconds till you hear two beeps. And this will reset the display settings.

Don't hold it to long or it will go on stand-by.

Also try reversing the ends of the HDMI
