Question about Singer 2250 Tradition

Jams Used it quite a bit over last week (first I'd used it), then suddenly jammed. Read the manual. Cleaned under the faceplate, cleaned out the bobbin area. No help -- 3 stitches and would be jammed (sewing flannel squares together). Changed bobbins. No help. Cleaned and oiled bobbin area. No help. It looks like the needle starts moving to the right and then it physically jams. I know what you're thinking, but there's only one way to assemble the bobbin pieces -- plus the design hasn't changed much over the last 50 years -- I kept my grandmother's Singer working well for her for many years and am quite familiar with the bobbin parts. Changed needle (didn't look bent, but changed it anyway. No help. Needle tight.Setting was for straight stitch, center. Tried straight stitch, needle on the right. No help. Using 2.5 stitch length. It had been just a dream to use -- now it's a nightmare. Ready to throw it away. You're my only hope...

Thanks for all suggestions. Found answer elsewhere -- screws had loosened slightly in the mechanism that involves the needle --took end of casing off (like you would to change the bulb) then tightened every screw I could see. Don't overtighten. Now it works like a champ -- was able to finish baby quilt for daughter's baby shower -- just in time. :-)

I make flannel square quilts for babies, it is a nightmare itself. It makes a lot of lint in the bobbin case and under the face plate, try prewashing the fabric before using it and clean out the bobbin case frequently while sewing. When i dont prewash it, i just open the bobbin area and blow the cotton dust out with my breath or i use the small brush to clean it out

Pfaff quilt expressions 4.2- thread jam error but there is no jam

THe Pfaff QE4.2 is a nice machine. You must be sure you are using it correctly. Damage to the machine can result if you are not following the operation manual correctly.

If the bobbin is dropped in spinning in the wrong direction, birds nesting will result. If you have poorly wound bobbins the machine will perform very poorly. If you try to use the incorrect bobbins you have trouble. This machine may need to be cleaned serviced, and adjusted to factory specs to perform to expectation.

I use a Pfaff Performance 5.0 I used to have a QE 4.0. SUper nice machines!

Bobbin jamming

try changing the needle
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint
rethread the top part of the machine using every thread guide
if none of theses suggestions work, the machine needs to be
checked to see if there is a problem with timing

Message remove thread jam under the stitch plate keeps appearing! It's clean!

After cleaning out the bobbin area, re-threading the top thread, turning my Pfaff 4.2 off and on it still said " remove thread jam under the the stitch plate". I pushed the "ok" button and it started working again.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Elna 2007 sewing machine breaking upper thread in bobbin unit. It will be going along fine then the thread will snap. thread tension on 1. zigzag stitch. Thread passing through upper machine OK, but...

Is your top thread tension on 1? this sounds way too loose, should be 4 or 5.
This is a horizontal top loading bobbin machine isn't it like the Janomes?

Do you have a manual for it? It sounds to me like the top thread is too loose and as it is pulled down and around the rotary hook there is no tension on it to pull it back up through the fabric and form a stitch which is then causing it to jam. Then once youve gots bits of thread in there, its just jamming and jamming. Cleaning out the bobbin holder as you described is good, you may need to do it again and ensure all bits of thread are out of it.

I think you need to revist all the threading up and ensure that the top thread is under tension, try number 5. Also check that bobbin is correctly wound nice and smoothly, then loaded into the bobbin holder correctly so that the thread is coming off the bobbin spool in the right direction, ie thread needs to come off the bobbin, then reverse direction in a "v" shape, usually in the direction of the back of the free arm. And that the thread has been clicked into the tension spring fully, put the thread into the slot of the tension device and press down on it with your finger tip until you hear it click into tension.

Also double check the take up lever, if the thread has slipped out of this, it will jam up for sure.

If you don't have any manual for this then try, there is good troubleshooting tips and threading diagrams for lots of makes and models.

Hope this helps you, persever, its most likely threading/tension issues and can be overcome with the right settings.

Brother CS-6000 Sewing Machine - Jam

I have the same problem and found that the bobbin case is scratched. These are quite expensive so I hope yours is something more simple. Keeping the bobbin area clean is also a necessity.

Hand wheel won't turn

I continued to try to get the bobbin out. I finally decided to break it out. Once it was out I tried pulling the case out so I could see if anything was jammed underneath. It took a lot of work but it finally popped out like the manual said it should. I cleaned it out, nothing really dirty, no thread jams. When I went to put it back together I noticed that the way to put it back was not the way the case was sitting when I took it out. So I figure that my son must have jammed it and somehow knocked the bobbin case out of alignment. I put it back in correctly and it works just fine now!
