Your windows registry got corrupted. Put the disc in and you can try do a repair option on the start. If that doesn't then you have to do a format, and then a reload.

Wont start up asks for you to boot into recovery mods...don't no how to do that

restart the computer again and while it is starting press the F8 key (you may need to press it repeatedly) until a menu comes up that allow you options (boot into safe mode* and including recovery mode as well)

Your other option is to start up the computer with the Windows installation disc (assuming you have one) and hit F10 key on start up and then choose CD/DVD to boot from.

When Windows XP won't start (secondary fix)

Symptom: You've tried the primary fix (the easy one) and you aren't successful. You keep ending up on the menu screen and nothing works.

Solution: Once again, boot to a Windows installation CD. This time, though, you will need a CD that has the same version of Windows that you are running (for instance, XP Home, XP Pro). When you get to the first question asking if you would like to repair Windows or install it, choose the "install" option.
You will be asked to press the F8 key to accept the terms and conditions. Do that.
The next screen "should" ask you if you wish to repair an existing installation or install a new one. Choose the "repair" option and follow the prompts. It will probably ask you to choose the installation to repair, so do that. There should only be one instance of "Windows" to repair. Now you'll see it deleting files and installing new ones. The nice thing about this option is you won't be losing data. If all goes well, your computer will work just like before with all your programs and data intact.
One thing you will need, though, is the Windows Certificate of Authenticity--that is the five groups of 5 letters and numbers that should be stuck on the outside of your computer case.
If this doesn't work, you will probably have to do a full reinstalllation of Windows or repair the registry which I will cover in a later tip.

Can open to msn but cannot open email??

I had exactly the same problem, but I also noticed that links weren't opening in Outlook express or I followed the following guide and this sorted the problem. Hope it helps you out too:

ake Links Work in Outlook Express, Outlook and Any Other Email Program

To make web pages open again when you click links in emails:

* Make sure neither Outlook Express nor Internet Explorer are open.
* Select Control Panel from the Start menu.
* Click Internet Options.
o If you do not see Internet Options right away, click Network and Internet Connections before.
* Go to the Programs tab.
* Make sure Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser is checked.
* Click OK.
* Close Internet Explorer.
* Re-open Internet Explorer.
* Click Yes when asked Internet Explorer asks "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?"
o If Internet Explorer does not ask:
o Close Internet Explorer
o Select My Computer from the Start menu.
o Choose Tools ' Folder Options... from the menu.
o Go to the File Types tab.
o Highlight (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol.
o Click Advanced.
o Highlight open.
o Click Remove.
o Click Yes.
o Click OK.
o Now click Close.
o Start Internet Explorer.
* If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, start it and make sure it is the new default.

The above does not work? Try this:

* Now select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "iexplore /rereg".
* Click OK.

Or, if that fails, continue with:

* Select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "regsvr32 urlmon.dll".
* Click OK.
* Click OK again.
* Repeat the Start ' Run... procedure with the following commands in this order, maybe checking after each for returning function:
o "regsvr32 shdocvw.dll"
o "regsvr32 mshtml.dll"
o "regsvr32 browseui.dl

My laptop fails to start... when turned on, it starts booting I am asked to choose the choose from the start menu... I've chosen star windows normally, advanced, safe mode, etc... Yet, the computer keeps...

Your operating system is damaged, First try loading default value in your bios menu via in the exit tab, then save and exit which could be clocking error registration. If that doesn't work, I would assume that the operating system is currupted and you need to repair your operating system with the recovery/driver cd that came with your system. Load that into your drive, and change the boot option to dv/cd as boot priority and follow direction from there on. Should be a option to repair windows and a option to reformat and clean install. You want to repair first, to see if the promblem is solved. Please save or copy any important data before formating your drive. If you should have any question please feel free to ask.

My playstation 3 comes on, but after the sony playstation logo goes away, nothing happens. Just the background and nothing else. How can I resolve this? I left it in the car last night and it was very...

This is a problem with the Playstation 3 software becoming corrupt. It is very easy to fix if you follow my simple steps.

Step 1.

Turn your Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off back into standby mode (red light on). You must now release the power button.

Step 3.

Press and hold the power again. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps release the power button.

Step 4.

Your Playstation 3 will now start up with a screen asking you to connect a controller via USB. Connect your controller and then press the PS button.

Step 5.

A menu will now be displayed on screen. Select option 3 "Restore File System". This will then ask you to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the system restore. Accept whatever the Playstation 3 says. Do not worry about messages saying the hard drive is corrupt, this is actually a good sign.

The Playstation 3 will re-install the system software but should not affect your game saves.

Once you have completed the above, hopefully the Playstation 3 will restart as normal. If it does not, do the above again but choose option 4. If that still does not work then choose option 5, but this will erase your hard disk.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

It turns on but nothing comes up on the tv and wont turn back off

This is a problem with your system software. Please follow these steps to fix it :

Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)

Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn back off into standby(red light on) . Release the power button after it has switched itself back off.

Step 3. Again, press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later, then there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 quick beeps.

Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this an then continue to the next step.

Step 5. A menu will load with 6 options. Choose option 3 "Restore File System". Accept whatever the PS3 says and hopefully it will restart as normal.

If option 3 does not work, do the above again and choose option 4, "Rebuild Database". If this does not work as a last resort select option 5, "Restore PS3 System". THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR DRIVE!!

One of these options will bring your PS3 back to life.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

How to get into safemode with ibm t26 thinkpad

To get into safemode on a windows operating system then you must press F8 at startup. Keep tapping the F8 key and you should get a menu that says Start windows in safe mode and some other options. Choose safe mode and your there.

Sometimes a computer may have a boot menu set to F8 and you will be asked to load from the CD drive or hard driver. If thats the case then select the hard drive and then tap F8 again until the menu at the top appears.
