I just filled the bobbin, now the needle won't move so I can rethread the machine

Disconnect the drive, rev the machine and then reconnect. Turn backwards, not forwards.

I was given a 6510 still in the box. I have the bobbin in and threaded but the needle will not move. The bobbin winder is moved to the left. The motor runs but no movement. What can I try?

Did you disengage the bobbin winder? That is a safety feature to prevent the machine sewing at the same time as the bobbin is winding.

How can I get the needle moving?

the machine probably needs to be serviced, there could be an internal problem causing the machine not to sew

The needle is stuck, not moving.its very hard and the motor makes a sound but needle does not move.

Refer to your manual and make sure the bobbin winding feature is disengaged.

Turn off the power and remove the needle and if there is fabric, remove it also.

Open the needle plate look for thread tangles.

After cleaning, turn the hand-wheel by hand to see if it moves the needle up and down.

If it does, press on the foot pedal to see if it is working.

Any of the above could be the problem.

did you turn the machine off and unpluged it for awhile...locking up may be a safety feature to protect machine from further damage
Make sure to remove broken needle if possible and turn lever by hand after restarting machine

Safety Feature engaged Brother 270 D

Push the button to put the needle in the up position. Take the hoop off the unit and chekc everything. Rethread the top thread. Take out the bobbin and remove the bobbin plate (the plate, not just the cover). Check under and around the bobbin shuttle as best as you can for threads and lint. Use the brush to remove any lint clumps. If it still not working I would try switching the machine off. If you leave the item hooped and you didn't adjust your design any with the machine before you started stitching you should be able to put it back correctly. Turn the machine back on and try again, skipping ahead in the design to where you stopped before of course. If it still doesn't work contact Brother customer service.
