Question about Makita MAC5200 Electric Powered Air Compressors
There are a few things that will cause a compressor to trip the breaker.
The main one is by using an extension cord. Compressors pull a lot of juice, even small ones. Therefore it's recommended that you use a longer air line instead of an extension cord. If you need to use one then you need to get one that may seem overkill. The best place to find one is a boating supply shop. Shore power extension cords do the job nicely.
Another issue is related to where you live and the time of year. If you are in a colder climate (like me), then you may need to stick a space heater next to it for 10 minutes. Compressor oil is straight 30. Even if it's a "Oil-less" design.
If you are in a warmer climate then you shouldn't be messing around with a compressor unless it's to air up a raft. ":-}
The last problem has to do with the unloader valve. When a compressor reaches it's max psi there is a momentary pressure release. This is the pressure that remains in the compression cylinder and the tank check valve. With out this release the piston needs to work against the max psi when it starts. This will cause the motor to sound as if it's laboring. This lasts about 10 to 12 seconds then it trips the breaker.
However the compressor would need to have started and worked up to or close to max psi. Only after it restarts will it have this issue.
Yea I know it's a lot of info but I like to be thorough.
The only other things that might cause this is an electrical problem usually found when there are to many other items on the circuit. A compressor should have a dedicated circuit but that's not really practical with smaller portable compressors.
I hope something here helps but if not please let me know and
I'll try and figure out the problem with you.
