You only said it tells you yellow ink cartridge is empty, you did not say if the print fails to print yellow. These are two different issues. I presume the later (it fails to print yellow).

So I will procede to give solution to that.

Ink may be new, but their nuzzles may be blocked; depending on manner of storage. To be sure apply a folded tissue paper to the ink nuzzle and press firmly. If the tissue comes off well blotted with ink it means you still have a good amount of ink in it and the nuzzle is not blocked. If not blotted or scantily blotted, it means ink is really low or nuzzle is blocked. To be very sure of this, place nuzzle in a plate/saucer with a bit water so that the nuzzle is soaked. Leave for about 10 minutes. Then apply the tissue again. If still not well blotted it means ink is really low or empty. If new you should return it for a replacement. In the case of blocked nuzzles, the procedure may be repeated over to get results.

Install cartridge

I have the same problem with my magenta. I've installed a new cartridge and it just keeps telling me it's out. For awhile it was allowing me to print in black only, but now it just won't do anything. HELP!

Will not recognize new yellow cartridge; tried 3 diffrent ones.

As soon as you have installed the new ink switch off snd restart the printer. If this doesn't clear it, do a full reset.
Make sure the printer is on
Unplug the power lead while the printer is on
Hold Help and OK buttons down while pluging the power back in.
The printer will eventually power off
Release the buttons and restart the printer sing the power button
This clears all residual memory in the printer and should work
