Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Frig/Freezer not cooling properly

GE Refrigerator model# GSS25SGMCBS The unit runs but both freezer and refrigerator do not get cold enough. Both are at about 49 degrees. Checked for frost and it seemed it had a lot of build up. I replaced the defrost heater. Still did not appear to work correctly so I ran a jumper between the line and defrost on the plug that goes to the main board. This verified that the defrost heater was working. I now assume that I need to replace the thermostat as well. I also noticed that the evaporator fan does not appear to be running. Not sure when that should turn on and/or off. Unsure if it is the fan itself or the thermistor. Any ideas?

Model ZFSB26DNA SS Side by side / refrigerator and freezoe not able to get cool enough. Refrigerator side temp 49 freezer temp 7

refrigerators run from 5 to 10 degrees C so your machine is on the upper limit of 9 degrees c
the freezer is at minus 13 degrees c and most work down to minus 20 degrees c so that is in limits
Get a technician in to check the thermostats and in the mean time check the condition of the door seals as they will loose the cold very easily is cracked or not sealing properly

Freezer will not go below 20 degrees.

Most likely the defrost heater is not turning off. Either a bad limit switch or a bad timer.

GE Model TBX18JISERWH This refrigerator is a freezer on top/refr on bottom.....the problem is that the freezer section is working fine, but the refrig isn't cooling enough. The temo gets up to 48/49...

Sorry to hear about your problem. Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice or is cold . If not. you have other issues, this does sound funny, but this is why your refrigerator side is warm, or not cooling.

Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
4. Defective Fan
5. Defective compartment inlet damper (on some models)

You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

Since I tried to help you, Please help me and Rate/Vote on the response. Thanks

GE fridge/freezer on but no cold air

The main board on the back of the unit has gone bad or in lockout. Try unplugging unit for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in. If it doesn't start the board is bad. wr55x10942 at about 169.00. Hope this helps. Very common GE problem

EXCESS FROST

You have a failure of the defrost system which is comprised of:
1. Defrost Timer
2. Terminating thermostat
3. Heater element
If you have no experience in servicing a refrigerator, I would recommend calling a technician, as it is a rather lengthy training session to write about. Or, you can ask one of our experts who can guide you through.
Tip: Manually defrosting the freezer thoroughly will allow the unit to function for several days until a tech. can get there.
