Question about Thermador Microwave Ovens
Goes to "cooling down" and shuts down when started
It sounds like the magnetron is overheating. There can be several causes:
- the vents are blocked
- the outside outlet of the air duct is damaged or has an animal nest in it
- the filters need to be cleaned (if grease filters) or replaced if charcoal filters
- the magnetron is failing
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can possibly download it here.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
