Hello, I just got an older natural gas direct vent heater for free (lucky me huh!). But the heater has no markings of what brand/model it is. Based on my search on internet I think its a Monitor gas...

Hi John, it should say on the front or somewhere near the control panel what model it is. If you could email a good picture of it to me I might be able to tell. If it is a Monitor heater, go to www.monitor.com or if it is a Toyostove heater go to www.toyostove.com and you can download an owners manual. The most recent models of Monitor gas heater are the GF 3800 and GF 1800. The older one is the GF 500. You can send a picture to nitensheaterservice@earthlink.net.

Need to reset temperature control on my toyostove laser 73

I'm not sure if I'm answering the question right, but the reset light should reset when the heater cools down. If not you may have a problem a circuit board or a bad temperature sensor or loose wire. You should find out why the heater overheated. It could be a dirty fan or fan cage or something else blocking the air flow.

Okay my grandma has Toyostove laser 73, its located in her livingroom. She keeps the livingroom entirely shut off from the rest of the house its a medium size house she used over a 100 gallons of oil for...

Ken,

Your grandma may have the room sensor low on the wall. Trying to heat the last foot or so of the room may not be necessary. Even here in Alaska with a 1000 sq ft house I only use 2.1 gallons a day. 100 gallons a month is about 3 gallons a day, that sounds like a lot. Older folks sometimes like it hotter than most. 70 degrees is hot, anything above that will use a lot of fuel.

My Toyostove OM-22 smells like exhaust gas in the room. I think its a gasket problem (fuel line looks OK; vent pipe is clean) I want to buy replacement gaskets for the burner, the flame sensor, etc....

There are some orings in the exhaust that might need replacing. Do you have a parts breakdown for the heater? I repair monitor and toyostove heaters and can get you the gaskets. I'm in NC. You can contact me at nitensheaterservice@embarqmail.com

Rinnai heater flashes code 12

Bailey,

Next time you try your stove watch the flame. If the flame goes away and then the error code comes on, you have something wrong with the over temp circuit, gas or gas valve, If the code comes on and then the flame goes away you have a flame sensor problem.

Good luck,

Could it have to do with the temperature sensor? If it is still coiled up on the back of your heater, it may be turning the heater off. You need to uncoil the sensor wire, and place the sensor somewhere away from the heater. One sight said atleast 8" off the ground. (I have a Laser 73 and mine is about two feet to the right and about 8 foot up on my wall as I have a lot.) You can attach it to a board if you have to, or any other item. Just put it as far away from the heat of the heater as you can so it will only be sensing the room air temp. If the line needs to be longer you can cut in stereo wire (I read this online too). Then play with the heat settings to see at what temp it is most comfortable for you. Hope this solves the problem.
