Question about Kitchen Ranges

I have replaced the electrical control panel once and the entire control panel & display once. Now it's doing strange things again after my wife pushed the self-cleaning button. Now the clock flashes and the two "locked" displays are flashing. The two doors continue going from locked to unlocked about every 20 seconds. I have cut power to the unit but everytime I reinstate power, the oven goes into this state. Other than replacing the control unit again, any other fixes I can try, some sort of a hard reset??? I'm sorry, I thought the model number was attached. It is a GE JTP56W0A1WW, about 2001.

Which button should I hold for 5 seconds for a hard reset?

Can't find any button on the electrical control panel that could do a hard reset. What now?

Bought new control from repair clinic.com over 20 months ago so no warranty. Left oven powered down for 6 hours. Still stuck in the same "locked" mode as previously described.

When purchasing parts, there are two items: the control board and the touch panel. Which of these should I buy, or both?

    Thanks.

A hard reset would be disconnecting power for longer than one hour. have you done that? i know you said you have unplugged it but the time length matters because of the memory. other than that is sounds like another faulty control. where did you get the replacement? manufacture? how long has it been? they may have a service upgrade for the unit. hth

Leave it unplugged for several hours, press and hold button on control panel for 5 seconds, wait half hour more, and plug back in. This will do a hard reset. Also remember to check all your wiring and any relays if you have any. what make and model do you have out of curiosity.

The touch panel is just for the digits of course. The control panel is like the brain of the entire appliance. I believe the control panel may be bad. But of course testing will need to be done with an ohmmeter/voltmeter

Unlock hot tub control panel

Panel needs to be in the display of "Time" 1st. If not, push the "Prog" button to get there. Once the Time is displayed, push & "Hold" the "UP" button for at least 5 seconds. The Lock icon/symbol will be displayed - panel is locked. Release and hold the UP button again for at least 5 seconds, the panel will then be unlocked.

Hi. I have a hotpoint ud47i fan assisted oven which keeps tripping the oven related fuse box. Can't find any obvious faults. Strange thing is that once I reset the fuse box, the oven works again for 5-10...

The oven is tripping the circuit because it is pulling to many amps.

Best thing to do is get an electrician to install a larger amp circuit for you. This will fix the problem and should be cheaper than another stove.

the starter hase a loose field inside the starters casing. That will cause the armature to rub and short out the entire electrical system when hitting the starter button. At times it will not in your case therefore the bearing or armature shaft is bent or very worn causing this to happen at times.

Bryan_you44,
I too had an issue with the dash controls, cruise ctrl, no speedometer. It happened all of a sudden on way back from Chicago. I think you may have the same issue. I put some change on the console in front of the display, which pretty much screams "PLACE STUFF HERE". Guess what, DON"T DO THAT!!!!. I had a dime lose it's way into the back of the display and shorted the whole Freakin thing out. $650 to repair.

The "cancel" button for the upper oven on my Maytag mer6751aaw gemini electric range just stopped working. To turn off the heat I had to unplug the whole thing! Is this something I can fix myself, or must...

Hi. due to the fact that the control is one whole piece, this will require you to replace the entire main control board. The cancel key is integrated into the control board. There is an overlay that protects the circuit, but it is a separate part, and is not connected to the main board. This repair will require you to disassemble the entire control panel. The board is located just behind the control panel piece.

Click here to view a diagram of the control sector, and panel.

The control board is labeld number three on the diagram, and the control panel is labeled number 1. There are four screws on the back side of the rear cover. Once these screws are released, you can access the board, from the rear of the control panel. The part number for your replacemnt board will be W10166967

  • NOTE_ If you are not comfortable with totally disassembling your control panel, and replacing this main control board, i would suggest to call for service. this job is not easy.

HI. This will be the actual control board in this case, that will be the culprit. the control board, and touch pad, are integrated. These symptoms are indicating that the key pad membrane is damaged. This will require you to replace the entire control board. Once the control is replaced, these issues will be corrected.

Resolution issues with Acer LCD al 2216w

Possibly this will help. I have installed two1680x1050 LCD screens this past year: your 2216W model on a new PC, and a similar model from another maker on my wife's older HP PC.

Mine worked at the native resolution, my wife's did not. Difference: the age of the computer's (actually Windows XP's) native software for monitors. I went to Control Panel, Display, Advanced, and slid the left-hand slider control to view the various resolutions available. On the newer computer, the highest resolution choice was 1680x1050. On the older computer, the choice was not given. The choices stopped somewhere areound 1270 by 1080.

Solution was to download the newer driver from (as I recall) the computer manufacturer's website, using their regular download/update channel. That gave my wife's older computer the necessary top-end resolution. It was not something the monitor manufacturer could have fixed.

Control panel disassembly

Shut the breaker off to the oven first. Frame around mircowave is a snapped on front. Removing allows access to two screws under control panal. Must actually pull entire unit out about 9 inches to access top of control area to remove access panel. Once front control panel is removed and top is opened, easy access to what you need to get to. Carefully write down color coding of wires before removing any of them. Remove old power supply board and display and reconnect. Reverse process. A bit of work but if you watch the disassembly process carefully, pretty easy.

Open Microwave Door and Fan comes on

Usually this is a problem with the door switches or a broken door switch mount.

Sometimes after a part replacement one will find a couple of wires have been reversed.

There should be a mini-manual with wiring diagram inside the oven behind the control panel.

If those are all correct, you may have a problem with the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
