Question about Kenwood Audio Players & Recorders
You have dirt in them by the sound of things. Get some Servisol Video 40 switch cleaner and spray them with it. It's best if you can get at the switches from the inside of the amp. A few presses should see thm back to normal.
You can get the Servisol from Maplin's (UK), Radio Shack (USA), and I have seen it for sale on Amazon.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
