Lets try to narrow down your trouble here... you are using the amp with all 7channels working at -23 right? how long wil it run at -23 level? can you try running it a t stereo mode only using main 2 channels and see if it will also trip at the same level. if it doesn't, try trurning off then the main speakers and run only the remaining sets of speakers under the same level. observe again. did it trip? also you can try sending audio to left chanlle only then right channel only. see if it also trips.

if both ways it did not trip at -23 when you redcued the loads, it may not be really overload but overheating. does this model has a built in cooling system? Im not sure about this brand/model but can you give me an idea what year mnodel it is? it is 7 channels so it may be having its own DSP.

Amp has 70 watts x 5 . speakers can handle up to 100 watts per speaker , so it is not overload. and -23 is not loud as the system can handle up to + 16 . protection mode just kicks in for no apparent reason. danny

Are you using a right load for the amplifier. what the rated output power of your amplifier. and know the output of your speakers.

well sometimes it protects you from being deaf.. for maybe its too loud so it goes to protection mode. dont know if -23 could make a person deaf.

well I hope I helped you with my solutions.. ^.^ please dont hesitate to respond us..

If you are using AV cables from your TV for movies and a different hookup for the X-Box would explain that the relay for the sound inside your unit may have blown from being overloaded or faulty. Should be an easy fix at a trusted electronic service place.I am not sure if your system has a manual reset button underneath or on back, but you could look for a tiny hole with reset on it or a red button. It may save you a trip to the doc.

Marantz 4220 Power Switch Dear experts Some time ago when unit switched on cracking noises in speakers started. But now exept ligting up no sound is comming just little when volume turned up.What could...

The Amplifier was failing and that's why you were getting the crackling noise.

Most receivers have an Auto Protect that shuts the system down and goes into Protect mode at the first signs of failure or overheating, usually indication by 'Protect' on the display.

I'm presuming from your post that you never got any indication that the unit was shutting down to protect itself and has just failed, so I'm presuming that this facility isn't fitted on this model.

Depending on you Technical ability it could be an easy repair (replacing the complete PCB or some PCB components). Your only other solution is a visit to a service engineer.

Hi, My Marantz SR4200 goes into protect mode about 45min after cranking the volume up to party mode, ie above '0'. It is getting worse slowly. Ok at lower volumes. Something seems to be overheating,...

Or it could be you're overdriving it, hence the heat. Take a clue and turn it down. At 70 wpc played loudly it could be going into speaker- and self-damaging distortion.

Make sure it has a lot of ventilation.

What would work better for Marantz SR 4200 Apple Composite or component cable? In order to play music through the amp as well as watching videos

Component Video is a big step up the food chain in quality. Component Video inputs are for video only, not for audio. I don't see Component Video inputs on the Marantz SR-4200; only Composite and S-Video. S-video would be a step up from Composite and it carries analog stereo sound.

You don't give any clues as to the source's audio capabilities.

Digital Audio of either flavor is preferable. Grab the best possible TV-related audio from your Cable/Satellite box to the Marantz and run a pair of RCA audio cables to your TV just in case you want to watch the weather channel without hi-fi sound.

Do have an idiots guide as to how to wire up the SR-4200 to a TV

I will interperate this as:
"So you want to play sound through your Marantz SR-4200?"

You need to clarify what sort of system setup you have, however i will put down a few ways to wire this up to your TV.

If you have a Set-top-box that gets the TV Channels, that is where the sound comes from. If you have a TV that plugs straight into the wall, you will have to get the sound from the TV. Grab a RCA Stereo cable - (White and Red heads, if you don't know what they look like, Google it).

If you are unclear about this, i have tried to make a diagram down the bottom to explain how this is to work. What you will do is Take the sound from the Set-Top-Box or TV and reroute it into your fantastic Marantz SR-4200.

1. Plug Red Plug into the the Red Slot, and White into the White on the back of your set-top-box or TV Out (if you get it around the wrong way, the speakers will be reversed.)

2. Plug the other end of the cable into the back of your Marantz SR-4200 in the TAPE input or VHS input as they are analog signal inputs. Turn on Marantz SR-4200 and turn it onto Tape or Vhs (depending on where you plugged it in).

[Set-Top-Box or TV out] >-------> into >------> [Marantz SR-4200]

If you still don't get it, then try searching You-Tube for a guide "Plug Tv into Stereo". I myself couldn't turn up anything useful

Compatibility with Samsung LCD Display

It sounds like the HDMI port on the back of your Marantz is damaged. if you know for sure that the HDMI port works on another tv still you might just use component connection because the visible difference between component and HDMI is not very recognizable.

Unit goes into protect mode

Not unless you know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics. If you disconnected the speakers and the unit still goes into the protect mode, most likely you have a short in one of the power output stages. Good Luck
