Heat exchanger replacement for carrier weathermaker 8000

After 18 years of service, it is not cost effective to just replace the heat exchanger. Go the complete replacement route. There may be a utility company incentive to do it.

My furnace is telling me that i have an open pressure switch via the trouble code on the circut board. its a weatherking furnace jmercadante01@hotmail.com

Hi,
If the pressure switch is open, that means that the inducer is not moving enough air to close it, the pressure switch is bad, or the heat exchanger may be cracked.

Check for air flow...go outside and see if air is coming out the vent pipe....make sure there is no water built up inside the vent pipe.
Make sure the air intake pipe is ope and not clogged if you have a two pipe system...

Check the small hoses by the furnace for cracks or water in the hoses...
Check for condensate buildup inside the heat exchanger...

A cracked heat exchanger can also cause a lack of pressure and or pressure differential....

If everything else checks out then you may have a bad pressure switch... they DO go bad...

Just had some work done on a Goodman GMPN060 and was told the heat exchange had a crack in it. Checked and the part itself is under warranty excluding labor. Just wondered how big a job it is and if...

you correct these heat exchangers are either warrantied for 15-20 years on the units... but the labor usually is not.... been appliance/heating /and air conditioning business owner for approx. 10 years now and in the business a little over 18 years .. the heat exchanger labor usually runs around 600.00- 800.00 when we do these jobs under warranty... it requires diassembly of practically the entire unit in order to do it correctly... and that usually requires unistalling the unit and re-installing in order to get the job done.,,, if the unit is over 12-15 years old we usually recommend replacement ,but does not have to be the finally result... as far as changing it out i won't say it cant be done by a home owner it is alot of screws and like i said requires diassembly of the burner chamber ,combustion motor ,flue piing, gas valve, any safety switches and wiring in the way...the heat exchanger is located on the burner side of the furnace in behind all this is the burner tubes and a plate that has to be removed to gain access to the heat exchanger. it not all that difficult just time consuming... as far as a diagram or step by step instructions i am not aware of any available.. they do have instructions in the new heat exchanger that gives a brief description of what required and a picture or two on it... 5k seems a little expensive too... i am in the dallas /ft.worth metroplex and we charge on the average 3500.00 to install new furnace unless there is special circumstances or going to be a real chore requiring several guys... hope this helps good luck ....

We have a HVM1540DN1BB that is intermittent sometimes it heats sometimes it doesn't, only two weeks old

Since it's less than a year old, it's fully covered under warranty.

Since it's less than 30 days old, most dealers will exchange it. Personally, I'd try this route first.

Your owner's manual will detail your warranty and have contact info for GE.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If you prefer to arrange service by an authorized service center, GE Customer Service is here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Weatherking furnace is starting and stopping

This just sounds like a couple of problems. First, your blower is designed to only turn on once the heat exchanger heats up, so the flame will be on for a minute or two before the blower starts. it sounds like your blower is cooling down the heat exchanger too fast and causing it to shut off so it can warm up again...check blower speed for heat, it should be the lowest speed (black wire). Blue=medium speed, red= high speed. second problem could be your flame sensor rod is calcified, you just need to locate this and clean it off with some fine sand paper.it is located in the flames near the burners. Also change your filters, for proper air flow through your heat exchanger.

I have a weatherking 13AJA60A01 Ac unit and the condensor fan is not moving, I can hear a sound assuming electricity goes through the system but the condensor fan not working. The unit is just 1 year old...

Weatherking has five year parts on there equipment. You may just have a breaker kicked or tripped float switch. Check for stopped up drain Shop vac **** out stoppage from the outside drain line for unit. Check breaker. The sound you here maybe the contactor. It energizes from the tsat inside. If the contactor energizes. You have a high voltage problem. Your warranty covers aprts not labor. So call a Rheem ,Ruud or Weatherking dealer. Any of these dealers can handle warranty parts. Rusty Feadback please.

How to take apart case and back flush heat exchange fins

You do not have to remove the coils. Just carefully lift the top with the motor and set it aside (power off). Spray the outside with a foaming cleaner (Dow bathroom) and flush from inside out.

KING FURNACE MANUAL

You do not need a warranty card for your warranty to be valid. Your installing contractor provides the labor warranty and the factory provides the warranty on parts. All the necessary information to make a (parts) warranty claim is embedded in the serial number of your unit. As for a manual you should contact the installing company or visit the Weatherking (Rheem) site to request this information. www.weatherking.com
