SOURCE: No Disc

Run a dvd cleaner through system, and try again. If that fails, unplug the HTS from the wall outlet for 10-15 seconds, and replug it. If that fails, it will need to be repaired.

SOURCE: philips DVP642 DVD Player "No disc" problem

if its still under warranty, do that.

if it's not, try taking it back to the store and asking for a replacement. don't let the floor salesman tell you no. insist on speaking to the manager. my strategy is to: "be polite, appear slightly stupid, and dont take no for an answer" it works 80-90% of the time.

if you cant get anywhere (or dont want to try that route), then you have nothing to lose. open the case and try to clean the mechanism and lens

two screws on either side of the unit, and i think another 4 screws on the back side. this will allow you to pull the top cover off the unit.

clean the mechanism, and clean the lens. you can buy cleaner if you want, but i just use a soft cloth and some "no-streak" type window/glass cleaner (windex)

clean your disks as well. this DVD player seems to be sensitive to scuffs and dust more than some other players. you just have to be persistent.

or you could buy another DVD player. at $60, its really a pretty good deal anyhow.

good luck

SOURCE: Philips HTS 6500 not reading my DVD's

I've had my hts 6500/37 for 6 months and it started doing this. I purchased a Philips cleaner, and ran it once and this fixed the problem (for now). I'm not confident that it'll last since I've read so many others are having the same problems. I really didn't think the cleaner would resolve the issue since I assumed it wouldn't read the disc, but I guess the micro-fiber cleaners did their job by just loading the disc. We'll see how it turns out.

SOURCE: Loading Problem

No Disk issues on device players like DVDs are caused by the following problems

Dirty Play Heads (Optical lens)
Bad CDs or scratched CDs on the surface
Non Compatible CD formats such as DVDs that are designed for some geographical regions and play formats
Also low electrical current is a major problem too

Your issue could reside amongst any of these problems

Check your DVD compactible play formats if its compactible with the CD you want to play.

If its compactible, then I suggest you get a CD Cleaner to clean to clean to Lens.

Also check your current output and if low, get a voltage stabilizer

Check the surface of the CD if its scratched and get a replacement.

SOURCE: Cleaning Lens

To clean the lens, remove cover, take a cotton swab and dip it in rubbing alcohol and rub cotton swab on lens.
This will clean your lens. If the problem persists after the lens is cleaned, than the laser motor is bad, or the timing is off and will need new mechanism.

When I open my Philips DVD player and put in disc it will not load and tells me NO DISC. Please help!

You might want to try using a DVD lens cleaner disc like the Philips CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner SVC2330 or SVC2520 or equivalent from many AV accessory vendors to help restore the cleanliness of the player read lens, so that its ability to read discs is restored. These discs have a tiny brush stuck onto the "playing" surface that polishes the lens, when the disc is played as normal. There is often an audio commentary to go with the cleaning.

No disc error video and audio cd works only dvd gets nodisc error

Hi there,

Did you try to test it and play another using another disc?

You may try to clean the optical lens of the unit using a optical disc cleaner available on any electronic shop, it seems that the drive lens is dirty and can't recognize the disc inserted.

Hope this helps.

Disc is not working. Error message No disc

Try cleaning both the disk and the lens of the dvd player. Sometimes even a little bit of dust can make your dvd player go ballistic. Brands like Sony,Philips and LG are very sensitive. If anything else fails, you can take it to a repair shop to find out if the lens isn't cracked or the LED isn't responding while trying to read the disk.

Toshiba D-VR4 DVD recorder/VCR player

you can get the cleaning disc at any electronic store or even at some other stores like drug stores and even at the dollar store , but if the laser lens is probably to dirty to even see that disc if your player will not even read a music disc, have you tried a music disc? can it read it ? if so the cleaning disc will work.
if not then taking the player apart and manually cleaning the lens will be required

Disc not being read - reading reading reading

That looks like a lens problem, when there is a fault of different kind you usually get an error message.

If you use a CD cleaner , use a good one , the $2 CD cleaners do not work, you need a kit with cleaning solution. Check here.

Run the CD cleaner a couple of times more , and see if this work.

If it does not work , the unit must be taken apart, and the lens cleaned directly with a cotton stub and cleaning solution, or isopropyl alcohol.

If the lens is defective, then the lens pick up should be replaced.

Bad Disc

If you sure that the system supports the disc's format, the disc is clean, and its the right region.. try to clean the DVD lens. DVD lens cleaning discs: Every CD, stereo equipment, department, discount, store - and even sidewalk venders - carries CD lens cleaning discs. Are they of any value? Can they cause damage? I generally don't consider CD lens cleaning discs to be of much value for preventive maintenance since they may just move the crud around. However, for pure non-greasy dust (no tobacco smoke and no cooking grease), they may not hurt and could even do a good enough job to put off a proper cleaning for a while longer. However, it's also possible they will ruin the lens. Consider that the worst thing to do to a precision optical surface is to wipe it with a dry cloth as this is likely to scratch the surface as it rubs the dust over it. To the lens, a speck of dust is like a boulder. Once the lens is scratched, replacement of the entire optical pickup is the only remedy. And, since there are absolutely no sorts of standards for these things, it is possible for a really poorly designed cleaning disc to damage the lens even if the dust itself is non-abrasive. In addition, if the cleaning disc doesn't look like a CD to the optical pickup or disc-in sensor, the lens it may not even spin. So, the drawer closes, the drawer opens, and NOTHING has been accomplished! (But at least no damage will be done.) As if this isn't enough, NEVER put one into a high-X CDROM (DVD player or DVDROM drive). The high speed rotation may cause the cleaning disc and/or player/drive to self destruct. And, don't try a cleaning disc on an automotive CD player that sucks in the disk - it will get stuck.
