I figured it out! The key is removing the "head" that covers the headlight - use a flathead screwdriver to pop it off.....then the belt connects from the agitator to the motor pulley. Phew!

If u get a flat head screw driver and pry the top housing from the bottom from the sides you will hear it snap open, this allows you to enter the chamber where the belt is

This is a link to a much more descriptive solution, with pictures and specific instructions on how to find the 4 tabs on the bottom that hold the top cover on.

I have a Upright Hoover Elite. Can't get belt back on right.

The belt loops over the motor shaft and the brush roller. Verify that the arrows on the end caps of the brush roller are facing DOWN or you will be doing the job over again. Start with the motor shaft and stretch the belt to allow the brush roller to seat. A new belt can require a strong pull on the brush roller to get it seated.

How do I make the noise stop?

Seems like the bearing on the side of the roller has gone bad. If there is a dirt gone deep inside, it is hard to clean it. It can also go bad if the roller hits the uneven surface like the transition strip between carpet and tile. It can unbalance the roller causing it to go off its axis and get misaligned.
This is the roller for the Hoover Elite Rewind

How do I remove the roller from the hoover c1429 vacuum cleaner in order to change the belt. Thanks.

That is an elite style upright. You will need to remove the hood by releasing for tabs around the outside of the hood/base. The brush will simply lift up. You may need to pry on the base with a flat blade GENTLY to get tabs on the ends of the roller out. I'll include a link to the correct belt.

I need to know how to install the belt on a hoover elite upright, #38528027

There are two snaps underneath to release the bottom plate. Next remove the top cover by gently prying off the base with a flat screwdriver. this will expose the belt. Install the new belt on the roller nd then push through the hole to attach to the motor shaft. reinstall the cover and bottom plate.

Describe how to replace belt on hoover windtunnel bagless

If you turn the vacuum so the bottom is facing up you will see the base plate that covers the roller brush. There will be four screws (usually phillips head), remove the screws and the base plate will lift off. You now have access to the roller brush and belt. Lift the roller brush up and remove the old belt. Place one end of the new belt over the motor shaft and the other end over the roller brush and put the roller brush back in place. Now simply replace the base plate and you're done! This models requires Hoover belt # 38528033 (single) or Hoover belt #40201160 (2 pack). You can get this belt at www.vacbelts.com.

Change belt on a hoover tempo

Remove the cover that covers the roller brush, (four screws) and remove
the roller brush and replace belt, it goes between the motor shaft and the roller brush. Replace the cover and that should do it.

Change belt on a hoover elite, model no. u4671-930

Every Hoover I've had has two screws on the bottom that you remove.  Then you lift off the cover and you pry out the brush roller. The new belt goes with one end on the motor shaft and the other end on the humped roller part on the brush roller.  Good luck it's a bit of a struggle but you can do it.

When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

Changing the belt

I'm not familiar with that model, as it is fairly new to the market, but the previous models had a plastic plate that covered the roller. There are two clips that must be depressed as you gently pull the plate away from the machine. This will allow the removal of the plate so that the roller can be removed and a new belt installed. This is a new model, so you must have the manual still. You can also check www.hoover.com for more instructions and last time I checked, they had a manual download feature available.
