Saw this question and it intriugues ,so i started thinking which hurt i might add ,and the more i answered car questions the more it puzzled me.So i rang an old friend in england who worked on and installed radar in lancaster bombers during WW2 and his answer was all of them to an extent .The blind sector increases in relation to the other issues getting worse, but he is suffering a bit with alzeimers and i had a job getting off the phone because it was like he was still their as a young man, anyway he started going off about the transmitter wires ,not a dish?? needing dropping and cleaning but make sure i have a watchout working with me to keep an eye open for stukas whilst the radar was down .If i get like that?? anyway thats what he said if its any help .Ican always pass his number over in the UK if you can get some sense out of what he says

I have a green light and orange light on my dash indicating which mode its in (city/highwsay). which is which?

Just remember that "green means go" as in, you are on the highway at a higher rate of speed and need maximum range from your system.

Amber is the "city" mode and reduces the sensitivity of the unit for when you are in the city or congested traffic.

What does K1 mean?

The letters X, K, and Ka designate radar frequency bands used by radar based speed monitors. The letters correspond to designations given by Federal Communication Comission (FCC) frequency bands reserved for speed monitor equipment.
  • X band - 10.525 GHz
  • K band - 24.150 GHz
  • Ka band - 33.4 ... 36 GHz
The number (range is 1 ... 5) is the radar signal strength, where 1 indicates weakest signal (you are still at some distance, or maybe false alarm) while at 5 you should be able to see the white in the eye of the cop holding the radar gun.

The letter V indicates the detection of a "Detector Detector". Devices like the Cobra are illegal in some countries and police has counter-measures available to detect some radar detectors. The maker of the Cobra states, their products go unnoticed but that won't help you if highway patrol sees the thing sticking on your windshield.

The letter S indicates hazard warnings (like train crossings).

Finally, L indicates detection of a LASER based velocity detector.

We have a radar Furuno 1622 - the scanner scans but sometimes we got echo and targets, sometimes none, sometime we get echos and targets on a small range display (1mile) but none on 2 or 4 miles range,...

I know this question is very basic, but did you check your gain and clutter settings? That echoes show in short range, disappear, reappear, and are not consistent on long range sounds normal to me. Auto settings sometimes also can get a bit mad, then manula settings makes sense.

Did you run the unit and scanner test?

Even after double checks on settings Iam still getting weak echos on Raymarine E120 radar. On higher ranges picture is non existant. Where could my problem be?

How old is the radar antenna? When the echos are weak that is a sign of a failing or weak magnetron. Have you gone into the system diagnostics page to read what the signal strength of the radar is?

I have a Furuno 1622 radar. It only shows a ring

I don't beleive this is goning to fix your problem. Open the dome and visually check that it is spinning. There is a maintenance menu though. To open the maintenance menu;
1. Turn the radar on.
2. Wait until the initial screen appears, then press and hold UP and DOWN keys together.
3. In about 10 seconds, the maintenance menu as shown below will appear.
4. Press MENU key to close the menu.

Hi, Furuno 1731 radar - no sweep/echo seen on screen. Scanner is rotating and other display is normal.

Go to longest range and full Gain min Rain and Sea Clutter
Do you have speckle? Yes = Receive OK, Wiring OK,No transmit (magnetron or modulator) No = Most likely a broken wire
There is a very tiny coax (shielded wire) that is know to lose its' center conductor, which is very delicate
