To answer you question about if its worth it?

This all depends on what is wrong with it, Keep in mind here Tech's here cannot L@@K T@uch and feel your TV, They cannot smell if there is something burnt. We are relying on you to use your eye,s ears nose and fingers to communicate your issues for a possible repair.

Get estimates from local repair guys Ultimately that is where this repair will end up. fixya only works if you have general "working" knowledge of TV repair or electronics. Can we fix it for $12.00 the answer is NO, We are not fixing nothing its actually you doing all the work while we guide you.

We give you information for a possible fix. We only can diagnose what you say and what you say is subjective and may not be the cause.

Capacitors play a huge role on how you tv reacts trust me if a capacitor gave out your tv will be acting funny or not powering on and the laundry list of issues will be taking place.

We at fixya meaning me and my fellow experts do this more or less as a public service the payment is so shortcoming for each of our answers to you. So think about the time and information we give when you do click the accept button. Try the methods others have given you.

IS it worth it? Well think about this your getting Educated, a possible fix and some experience for the price of the service so in my humble opinion it is worth every penny! Try our problem solving skills what if it was a $2 capacitor? What if it was a $12 dollar Thermal fuse wow you save $200-$600 on repair bills. Now as yourself this was it worth it?

If you like my portable e-book I written for you here please show support

My 55" Phillips Rear Projection tv has perfect sound but no picture at all.

Hello sdbeynon,

This usually denotes a problem in the high voltage section either trippler or the IHVT. Since this section of the Tv has hazardous voltages I would suggest that you get a TV repair technician to give you an estimate on the cost of repair.

Judging by what you described it sounds like the trippler may have a problem. Have the technician check that first, or if you have a high voltage probe here is the procedure:

1) Remove the rear of the Tv set

2) clip the ground lead of the HV probe to ground.

3) using the tip of the probe touch the input of the trippler block you should have a voltage of 20Kv - 30Kv

4) touch the individual outputs of the trippler block they should each read 20Kv to 30Kv.

If the input is not present the IHVT or the trippler is bad, however if the 20Kv to 30Kv is present on the input but not the output the trippler itself is the problem.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps
