SOURCE: GPS 48 MEMORY LOSE

You can go to batteries plus or wherever and buy a new 3 volt battery for it. You will have to unsoder the old one and soder the new one back in. Original was a VL1220, I replaced with a Dantona Lith 1-2VLS

WHEN I TRY TURNIN IT ON IT JUST STAYS ON THE SANDISK 256MB WELCOME SCREEN HOW CAN I UN FREEZE IT?

Reset the device. 1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds. 2. Release the Power/Menu button. 3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player.
Power cycle the device.
The power cycle discharges excess/residual power from the player; with the use of a new battery, it should be able to power on the MP3 player properly.
STEP 1 - Remove the battery STEP 2 - Power cycle the player 1. Connect the player to the PC. 2. Leave the device connected for about 2 minutes.
STEP 3 - Turn on the device 1. Unplug the player from the PC. 2. Insert a fresh AAA battery into the player. 3. Turn on the player.

Won't turn on - when last used 7 days ago was working perfectly.

Hi davisfive,

The Garmin Nuvi 250W and most other 200 series GPS receivers are normally reset as follows:

The reset button is located on the right rear-backside of the unit. Press a blunt non-metallic object or a cut off toothpick into the small hole and hold for approximately 15 seconds. The unit should do a fresh reboot. Sometimes these GPS units can be reset by sliding the Power key to the left for 10-15 seconds to completely shut the unit down. Then, do the same procedure for 10-15 seconds again, to power it back on.

It would be best to assure the unit has external power, and hopefully a full battery charge, for best results. Also you can download a complete manual from this link for more info:

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/nuvi205_OwnersManual.pdf

Let me know how this turns out, and if I can help you further.

Regards, Bill

Power Switch will not turn my Rhino 530 HCx on

When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen. Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%. I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result. I’ve tried it while connected to the charger. Same result. I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries. Same result. Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.

Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.

Keeps switching to battery mode.

try the reset first, its the little pin hole on the side, hold it in for 3 seconds you may also press and hold the power button for 10 seconds...
its possible it has a software or hardware problem and reset or update could repair it, but its not likely. this model and a whole lot of others are none for the usb port going bad and they are not feasible to repair.

if those fail, hook it up to your pc via the usb cable and if it will stay on, go to the link below and get the lateset update for your model.

Replacement of the 10 year lithium back-up battery

Pry it apart along the edge with an exacto. Be careful around the antenna where it is circular.

Get a new battery to match and a battery holder from DigiKey.
Solder wires to the new battery holder and secure it at an angle up by the antenna with white silicone making sure that the case closes. Get the + and - right when you solder.

Test the unit then secure the case with white silicone in a small bead.

Garmin GPS 45

It is probably one of the following:
1)Old Software
In 1999 the GPS satellites were reset and the new almanac data had to be loaded into the GPS 45 for it to continue to work. It was not uncommon for that model to quicly kill a set of batteries when it is having difficulty acquiring, which would cause it to shut down in order to save the batteries for its internal memory.

I just did a quick search of the Garmin website and it appears they no longer support that model. If you go to their support page and send a request for a software update they can probably e mail it to you. The update is free but to down load it, you need a PC interface cable (RS232 serial port connector) Part Number: 010-10141-00 Suggested Retail Price: $ 38.09.

2)Bad antenna
To rule this one out, borrow an antenna from another Garmin 45 or Garmin 48, or plug the unit into an external antenna and see if the unit still shuts down. The drawback to this method is that you can buy a new GPS that is superior to the one you have for about the same price as an external antenna.

3)Bad batteries
If your batteries are low, the unit will automatically shut off to protect its internal memory. I tried a lot of different batteries in my 45 and I found that Eveready alkaline batteries worked best. Rechargeable nicad batteries don't work very well because they fool the battery meter. Newer models have a setting to specify that you are using rechargeable batteries.

Ultimately the best advice I can give you is buy a new GPS. For less than $150 you can buy a new model that is more accurate, more reliable, stores more waypoints, has a better display, is easier to use, and gives you more valuable information.

Please rate this information as helpful.

Will not stay on

Connect the Garmin using the USB cable to your computer. Turn on your computer and let it boot up. Now turn on the Garmin. Does it stay on? If the answer is yes then the battery is dead. If the answer is no then you have something internally wrong with the Garmin. If the unit is still under warranty then get a RMA and send it back to Garmin.

Stay clear of rechargeable NiCads as they supply to low voltage and you may experience cutouts ? Use good quality regular alkaline batteries. Check battery terminals in gps (both ends) for corrosion/rust and clean if necessary.
