A gas oven that heats unevenly or won't get up to temperature may have a faulty thermostat or clogged burner ports

  • Paper Clip
  • Screwdriver, or nut driver and socket
  1. Step 1 Remove the oven door. It may just lift up and off the hinge arms, or you may have to unscrew it from the hinges.
  2. Step 2 Spread several sheets of newspaper on the bottom pan to absorb soap and water that may spill during cleaning.
  3. Step 3 Locate the upper burner, attached to the roof of the oven. Remove the burner cover, if there is one. Use a screwdriver or a nut driver and socket, as required.
  4. Step 4

Clean the burner flame openings, using a scrub brush and warm, soapy water to remove the surface grime, and the end of a paper clip to poke out dirt that has collected in the openings (see illustration). If the surface grime is particularly stubborn, spray with oven cleaner and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then rewash the burner with warm, soapy water, and again clear the flame openings with your paper clip.
  1. Step 5 Remove the newspaper and lift out the bottom pan. The lower burner will be underneath. Clean the lower burner, following the same procedure described in step 4.
  2. Step 6 Wipe up any water or dirt that collects under the burner. Let all the parts dry thoroughly, then reassemble the oven.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. These kinds of issues are usually caused by a faulty oven temperature sensor. Oven temp sensors senses the temperature in the oven cavity and the temp sensor changes resistance, this change in resistance tells the oven control what temperature the oven cavity at and tells the control to shut off the element or turn it back on. The most common temp sensors used today are approx 1000-1300 ohm resistance at room temperature (70F). Make sure the wire nuts/connectors are completely through the insulation and not touching the back of the oven cavity.

You'll need to disassemble the oven to check for the resistance of oven temp sensor, to verify that the temp sensor is faulty. And, if you find that its resistance is less than 1000ohms then you'll need to replace it or else it's the glow igniter that is faulty and needs to be changed.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

My gas oven, Super Capacity 465 the oven nor broiler light. The stove top works fine.

Hello there
Please read the entire solution i have provided below ok
It won't bake or broil If neither the oven nor the broiler heats, but the range burners still work, the clock may be set for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. Check to be sure the clock buttons and knobs are set properly. If your clock has a knob that says "push for man(ual)," push the knob in and try heating the oven and broiler again. If they still don't work properly, you probably have a defect in the thermostat, selector switch, or common wiring. Note... If the oven doesn't have a separate bake/broil/etc. selector switch, the problem is often with the thermostat. It's not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for proper operation. If you suspect a problem with either of these, call a qualified appliance repair technician.

Whirlpool supercapacity 465, elements are not heating properly and can see sparks at contacts

SuperCapacity? this is an electric range, yes? Sounds like the "eyes" are not properly seated in their sockets. If possible, pull power at the mains and firmly reseat all the heating elements. Two or three times, if necessary to get a good connection.

hoops, it almost sounds like you lost a leg of power, L2. L1 is sending power to the board but but it's not making the loop. Too much of a coencidence that the burners and oven are not working. Check the cord connection to the oven. You should have 220V across the 2 outer terminals. 120V from each end to center terminal. Let me know what you find. Catriver.
